My phone, just two days old, was knocked off a table and onto a wood floor. Here is the result:

Some more details for those interested...
Screen issues: According to ifixit "the LCD and digitizer glass are fused together", so that's why you can see the light bleed where the screen broke all the way through. Yes, my screen had the yellow band across the bottom. I had not opened a ticket on this and was trying to make it go away with sunlight/UV first. I do not know if my screen had a defect in the fusion process (causing the yellow band) that also made it vulnerable to breakage.
Screen protector/case: before someone helpfully suggests time travel by saying "you should have...", I bought a case and a screen protector from OnePlus. However, these only help absorb energy if they are the point of impact. Mine landed on the bottom screen edge down at an angle like this /. Yes, a case with a full rubber bumper would have helped, and I would have ordered it from OnePlus if it existed.
Drop Height: roughly 75 cm (30 inches)
Landing Surface: it fell on my kitchen floor, which is floating laminate wood. It's designed to give a bit when you stand on it, somewhat like cork.
Customer Service status: I created my ticket at 4pm Mountain Time on July 25 (about 16 hours ago). I have received and acknowledgement of the ticket but there has been no follow up yet. As the only hesitation I had in buying this product was "what is their customer service actually like?", I will soon have an answer. I am hopeful and optimistic that I will be able to report here how awesome their customer service department is.
I will add/edit this post as I move through the process.
