I'm sorry to hear what happened, hope I don't drop mine, on a brighter note, you don't have a yellow screen anymore,:p:eek:

My Nexus 4 with gorilla glass has had a number of drops on to concrete, etc, but I've been lucky enough to have just a few marks, rather than it shattering like that. That does suck big time, particularly as this phone puts you through the mill just to get one!

That's how it appeared to fall from my angle. I had no intention of doing a drop test...

Perhaps the casing is tougher than the screen.

OPO is definitely most susceptible to breakage due to the raised glass screen. plus being 5.5" also makes it more vulnerable compared to smaller screens.
would a tempered glass protector really do any good protecting it in this case, where if fell at an angle directly on the edge, I doubt it

A rubber bumper case that went around the whole edge may help. They don't seem to exist (yet).

So far no response. All you can do is fill out a form and wait for them to call you.

Thanks for the information and reminder. Since it's weekend and it's night in China, I would say the earliest time you could expect a response is Monday afternoon, assuming you live in US.

Samsung uses the same assembly process. If you can get a new glass, your local phone repair shop should be able to install it for like 60-80 bucks. They heat the device with a very controlled heat, then slice the glass off the display with a wire. Then they clean and install new glass.

oh gawd, most probably poor manufacturing. Dropped mine Nokia with GorillaGlass 2 lots of times, not a crack yet.

I guess Gorilla Glass 3 isn't as tough as we're all lead to believe.

This is why I got a 2 year warranty from SquareTrade with accidental damage protection for my One, and I saved 40%. I'm also getting a Nillkin 9H glass screen protector and a third party silicon rubber (TPU) case as well.

Good luck with your RMA and getting your phone fixed.

Isn't it $99 for a 2 year warranty and a $75 deductible? That's half the cost of the phone. Pretty expensive.

This can happen to any phone having Gorilla Glass no matter the price..Its just scratch proof...Nothing more..So if you are lucky you can get away with a few bumps..
