My touch screen is a mess...

    ktownhero , Nov 6, 2014 :
So, I before 38r, I had some really serious touchscreen problems. Sometimes it would stop responding altogether and would even start creating phantom touches rapidly. I wouldn't be able to use the phone and it even almost dialed emergency numbers a few times. I would have to hard reset to get it back to normal.

After 38r those types of issues went away, BUT now my touchscreen is just sort of subtly unresponsive. Typing has become a nightmare. I have to type at about half the speed I used to because it fails to recognize my touches properly if I type at normal speed. Pinch to zoom has entirely stopped working, any app that uses it just spazzes out when I try to do it. Sometimes I'm not even able to unlock my phone (pattern) because it stops tracking my finger half way through. The worst is that it regularly registers my swipes as touches and there have been times where I am totally unable to scroll in Tapatalk or Reddit is Fun because it just keeps clicking links instead of letting me scroll.

I'm super frustrated with this and all support has told me so far is that a factory reset of 38r will fix it. I did that and it didn't. I don't know if this is a hardware or a software issue but the phone is very young.

Any suggestions on how this might be fixed? Is this an isolated issue for me or is there a bigger issue with the hardware/software?

As I have said from the getgo that the hardware is at fault here. They are using old touch technology along with a questionable controller. The touch screen response is very erratic and not on par with other phones at all.
What they did in 38r was mask the problem with software by introducing delays and other shit. Over time and use these "fixes" tend to get worse and you get a spastic phone that just doesn't want to working like a touch screen phone.

I have been warning people for MONTHS about the touch issues and why this phone is not a good touch screen phone.

I don't mean to rub it in, I'm sorry but there isn't any amount of updates and software that is going to fix your hardware issues :(.

If the phone is very young...file a paypal claim and return for a refund. Another thing I keep telling people is that this phone is not worth the $350 gamble because chances of you getting a perfect phone are well.... worse than winning at the casino.

About the old capacitve technology.... Go out in the sun. Hold your phone at an angle and you will see little dots etched into the glass. Each of these dots in a capacitive sensor with etched lines connecting them all. The controller senses the input from these "dots" and interprets the inputs. This method of input has not been used in phones since 2011!!!! because it's not very accurate, is prone to failure and is just not reliable.

Have you noticed how much better and smoother touch screens have gotten on other flagships while the Oneplus still feels like early touch screens when it comes to response?

Also any breaks in any of those capacitive sensors can leave part of the screen unresponsive.

Also, Why is that MOST other phones have a fully functional display when cracked..touch works fine. But any crack in the Oneplus renders the phone completely USELESS! because the cracks cause a break in continuity of the etching in the glass.

It's also that very etching that makes the gorilla glass weaker..... many people have complained of the weak glass on the phone.

Sorry pal but this is no flagship killer

    youre lucky
when i wake up today, my screen didn't detect touches or detects touches and not long pressings
there is my hardware i think, before the phone had the inhability to detcts more than 1 finger (no pinch to zoom) and with a reboot solves itm but not today no luck for me, the touch/digitizer costs +$100 and i have read the above nightmare post and what if came again evenm with a new scree/digitizer ?

The design itself is flawed. It's gamble if you get a non working one or decent working one. You gambled $350 and lost..... I guess keep throwing money at it and see if you win.

Thanks for the information. The display is now beginning to fail. I am experiencing flashing black bars across the screen in a variety of apps.

Oneplus is being slow to respond but I'm going to need to do something soon.

I'm with you on that one, the screen is beyond a joke and the fanboys still try to defend it.
You just cant software fix Bargain basement faulty internals.

I appreciate the info but nobody here is trying to defend anything. The glib comments are unnecessary, I'm just trying to figure out what I can do to reach a resolution. I'm going to check with PayPal and American Express to see if it can be resolved somehow. At this point I'd prefer a refund but if they replace it for free I will accept that as well.

I opened a second ticket that now includes videos of my screen failing both from a touch and display perspective. Here are the videos for posterity:

I really need to receive some support for this phone. It's only about 3 months old and is clearly failing. I currently have two tickets open. The first is over a month old, the second I opened yesterday with the videos above.

I want to let everybody know that my issues were 100% fixed via the last firmware update. I waited a little while to report that it was fixed, but I can safely say it is at this point. So, all of those spouting their mouth off about how the hardware is horrible and faulty, you may want to check yourself.

Would you be able to clarify which firmware you went to that solved the problem? Thank you.

It won't let me send a ticket off my phone because It won't let ne input an order number.. Even so ive submitted a ticket months ago and they never got back to me.. My phones fully up to date and I'm getting phantom touches and my phone has a dead spot in the middle of the screen making it frustrating to use.. Phones isn't even 3 months old and isnt working.. At close to $500AU delivered I'm getting rather annoyed at the after sales service and the poor quality of the product

I dropped my phone at the bus stop and there is a little crack in the corner, with a big streak of broken glass down the middle. I can touch anything. "Okay Google" is my best bet for anything, but I just get "Unlock your device first" which I can't, so my phone is useless. Now I have to use my crap Moto G...

Nice answer. I have had the same problems on several screens already with the OnePlus. I'm now so frustrated, I'll just be moving to a different brand
