UPDATE #2 - Renders available here. Pick your favorite now!
UPDATE #1 - Vote for your favorite bottle design here.

    Hey everyone,

It's been a while since our last conversation about Power of Community. After hosting an exciting online Open Ears forum on June 11 – you can check the recap here – we held our first-ever online OEF for the Chinese Community on June 21 (if you want you can check the recap in Chinese here).

    PoC1.png PoC2.png

In these events, we were happy to see your idea and options for the co-creation products are in sync with what we originally considered. With the feedback of over 3000 users worldwide, selecting this year’s Power of Community co-creation physical products was a no-brainer: Water Bottle and Smart clock were the clear top picks!

You might’ve noticed some teasing on Twitter already:

    PoC3.png

Out of the two, we decided to go with the water bottle and we’d like to share the reasons behind that call:
    1. Being the first product coming out of Power of Community, we decided to go with the option more familiar to us. We have people that have already worked on previous OnePlus gear that can help us ensure the end product meets all quality and legal requirements.
    2. It’s our goal to have this product ready by our anniversary day as part of the celebration, so the time is tight.
    3. We know you are talented, and we want to create a bigger platform for your ideas to turn into reality and be known by many others. Power of Community is just the kick off for this long-term project and the water bottle is just the start of hopefully a long line of fully co-created products. We want you, yes, YOU, to become the OG for this journey with us.
    4. Budget also plays a role in this. We want to give you an honest and real product development experience and money is part of it. Going for the smart clock idea with the budget we have for this project would make it less feasible, so we opted for the water bottle concept to ensure the highest rate of success for the Power of Community project.
To give you further insight on what’s been happening behind the scenes, @nerdkabir provided an interesting and cool design for the water bottle industrial design, and we decided to discuss it internally as a starting point for the water bottle.

    PoC4.png
Product managers and the procurement department have discussed this design for over two weeks, on whether we can make it come true as is. However, the answer is regrettably ‘no’. The cost to execute this design from scratch is too high for the budget allocated to the product. We then contacted more suppliers to work on finding a good starting point that closely resembles @nerdkabir’s design.

The main feature we want to achieve is the toughness, while keeping the clear look @nerdkabir has in their design. We will keep updated on further developments.

You might remember from our announcement, we want to widen the scale on what we can do together, not limiting it to physical products but also exploring virtual ones. As a heavy mobile user, your requirements drive change in software and make great ideas come to life. We would love to explore more ideas based on your requirements, like the well-received OneLab Clipt, so that more people can benefit from them. We need your hunger for more, and OnePlus wants to zoom in on your input to build better future products.

That’s it for now, and there’s a lot to unpack already. We shared what the first Power of Community physical product will be, what are the reasons behind that decision, and what we’ve done so far. Next month, we’ll kick off the virtual product development and we’ll keep you updated on everything Power of Community-related, every step of the way. Stay tuned!

    Hello everyone!

We’d like to update everyone on the progress of our first Power of Community co-creation product currently under development -- the water bottle.

With reference to the design layout provided by @nerdkabir and emphasis on product durability and stylish design, we’ve narrowed it down to three water bottle options with different body and cap designs.

Bottle A: Translucent bottle with a cap that needs to be twisted open manually. The cap is removable from the water bottle, enabling thorough cleaning. Features an adjustable handle for easy carrying.

    OptionA.jpg OptionA.gif

Bottle B: Translucent bottle featuring a flip-top lock lid and a silicone mouthpiece. The handle is adjustable and can be fitted into the rim of the lid.

    OptionB.jpg OptionB.gif

Bottle C: Opaque body with a twist cap. The cap has a built-in magnet that keeps the cap stowed while drinking. The mouthpiece is plastic. Features a fixed handle.

    OptionC.jpg OptionC.gif

All three versions use Tritan™ plastic for added durability and safety.

While the internal team is currently reviewing the options, we’d also like to hear your thoughts! Which option do you like more? Which bottle design do you prefer, translucent or opaque? Let us know:

    Hello friends,

Our team is glad to be back with updates on the water bottle development as we advanced into the product design stage. (This stage will be followed by Design Fix period, Sample Production period, Sample Fix period, Inspection and Testing, Product Finalization, Mass Production and Delivery. It’s a long way to go, but we are working hard to make sure the final product turns out well!)

At this stage, we have requested design renders from the water bottle supplier, combining design inspirations from Community and opinions from our product manager. Upon reviewing the design renders, we will determine which design(s) should go into the stage of sample production.

(Kind reminder: Please bear in mind that the render images and the actual products may not look 100% the same, and further fixes may be needed after the samples are produced.)

So take a look at the three shortlisted design options and let us know your thoughts, and Vote Now!

Thanks for sharing the progess with the community. nerdkabir's design looks quite interesting. OnePlus already has a water bottle in its catalogue, it will be nice to see how the new product is accomodated.

Since the oef wasn't under nda, I can tell you Smart clock received the most votes and the lamp was a close second. I was really hoping for either of these. (Actually a Frankenstein)
