Niilkin tempered glass - does not save the screen from cracking!

    Thedulli , Jan 13, 2015 :
So, anyone's biggest fear was realised this past Sunday when the phone slipped out of my hands and landed screen first on to my hardwood flooring.

The Niilkin tempered glass I had on did not shatter, however the screen itself did! As I had taken the Tudia Cygen case off due to just then putting in the Bamboo StyleSwap cover, there was no protection apart from the screen protector. Which didn't unfortunately! Screen is also unresponsive, but that is expected if you have heard from other members about their screens.

Luckily the excess quoted from my insurance cover is only £25 (much less than the £100-odd quoted by many from OnePlus).

Don't know what the moral of this story is - perhaps don't install hardwood flooring? If you have a hardcase, use it?

    Oh Well!

EDIT: these photos were taken by my Surface RT tablet - quality isn't great

Shit. I had to take off my Diztronic TPU case too due to the Bamboo Styleswap :/ I think you should buy Rhinoshield next time.

That sucks, I have a tpu tudia case and it feels protective with my nilkin...but you cannot say just because of one case the rest will be the same, that's sterotyping

Yh, I got the Niilkin before hearing about Rhinoshield. Perhaps should have claimed for the tempered glass instead of just the screen replacement!

Why did you buy a fancy-pants Bamboo StyleSwap if your is going to be inside a case? More money than sense?

Yh, I mean to be fair I am pretty lucky that this has only cost me £25! Not blaming Niilkin, perhaps I expected more from tempered glass protectors.

Right now, I have two cases, two covers, and not phone to use. Sense and money won't console me. Lesson learnt though.

What is the moral of this story? "Don't judge the durability by the cover" :D

I broke 2 Niilkin tempered protectors and they have both cracked... I'm now using a POS one that I got with a bumper and it is better.

God, that is the stuff of nightmares. "It'll be fine, I'll just have the case off for a minute. Oh shit." Like getting a girl pregnant.

Glass protectors will not prevent the screen from cracking. The protection they provide is minimal at best. Get a glass protector for the scratch protection and nice finger feel, but don't expect it to prevent cracks.

It seems to me that the Niilkin tempered glass actually is a scratch resistance cover rather than protective against cracks

I've ordered (but still not received) a very cheap ($2.50) tempered glass protector on **********. I'd like a case too, but, I'm not sure what cases fit with the glass protection? Advice?

The Tudia Cygen and the Niilkin Frosted cases both fit with a tempered glass protector.
