No notification LED - alternatives?

So the news broke that the 6T does not have a notification LED.

Many people claimed that you can easily use the screen itself for this purpose by lighting only one (random) pixel. Now I am wondering, is this really possible on the 6T? Does an app already exist? Does it need root? How would I go about to get this feature?

I wanted to upgrade from my 3 but now... not so sure.

die hard OnePlus fans will argue there was no space there, but will fail to see the compromise. when OnePlus disabled always on feature(which is alternative of led) in op 6 they said it was due to battery saving concerns, now they will try to push that same feature based on user feedback hence being hypocritical.

edit- there's an app on playstore, led blinker lite and noLed which will solve your problem, make sure to disable battery optimisation for this app.

Wow, that's pretty sad there's no notification light. I consider it an important feature for a smartphone.

I use my notification LED all the time and generally means I can leave my phone on silent but never miss notifications. The lift up display doesn't really help as if your phone is on a desk you wouldn't know you had a notification other than constantly checking it.
I'll probably look at alternate phones now as I doubt OnePlus will do anything to replace the notification led. I notice lift up display showed on the spec but no always on display.

I am really disappointed with this and may look elsewhere too. I stuck with my oneplus 3T because I don't like rear fps. I use the led notification led as a way of telling me what notification has arrived because my phone is on silent in work and I don't want anyone lifting my phone to see what apps I may have or I've received a certain type of notification whether it's a SMS, email or signal. An led anonymised it. There used to be a clunky app in the galaxy s2 days because it didn't have an led but horrible. This trend for full frontal displays is at the expense of usable features. They could have implemented a flashing set of pixels on the lock screen or line to replace it. Very unhappy!

That totally defeats the object of an 'upgrade'

only fingerprint in display and 3700 mAh battery, that's all , in rest no jack no led notification, I'm happy with my op6 , at least if they put different camera but it's the same ....so it's not an upgrade no splash resistance grrrrr
