Rubbish depends on the point of view of the user. Floating windows is "rubbish" for me. Don't see the need on such a small screen. I barely even use splitt screen.
I enabled freeform windows in developer options... Nothing interesting or very useful for me so it's disabled again.

Shelf is useful for me ( a way to unclutter the rest of the launcher area. I put widgets and stuff there ). But I prefer to have it back on the left swipe rather than swipe down. Discover is rubbish for me. If I wanted that news flow I simply open Google app. I don't need a shortcut for it even if I wanted Discover.

So when this is out of beta does this mean that it'll be implemented back in for everyone via a launcher update? I really hope so as I'd love the shelf.

Yeah. I guess it will be back in one form or a other.
I'd prefer to get it back as a left swipe rather than down swipe though. I gladly disable Discover and enable Shelf instead.

I don't know who would rather have the shelf instead of the notification panel as a swipe down?
Well yeah, me but I have a fingerprint sensor on the back so I don't need to swipe down on the homescreen.
But if I didn't have it of course I would rather have my notification panel

It's not "instead of"... You can still access it via swiping from the top

On 20:9 aspect ratio display? Hard pass
I'd rather not stretch any finger muscle while trying to reach for the status bar, no thank you.

I wish Shelf was accessible from everywhere.. Like a quick settings toggle to show up or a Swipe gesture from a corner of the screen or something like that.. Similar to the Quick Edge feature in Samsung Galaxy S series phones.. It would be handy to look grab the Shelf for a quick note or calculation from anywhere.

Personally I'd prefer to get the option to disable Discover and enable Shelf and access it the normal way

Notification & quick settings are far more useful than shelf.. better give us option to remove the 'search apps' in the app drawer. it looks and feel better.

So what's the big deal with this?
On my OP3/T, I already have been able to access Shelf by swiping L to R!
Swiping down will easily get confused with accessing the two options of the notification/status bar.(Fortunately, this feature will not be available to the OP3/The.

You are not forced to chose ONLY one of them... You just change what swipe down in the middle of the screen does. If you don't like it just leave is as it was before.
Swiping down from the top of the screen still gives access to quick access.
Not optimal but you still don't loose access to it.

It's for 8 series that never had Shelf. They only had Discover (with India as an exception)

Near identical to the news feed in the Google app.

But still hardly worth a major announcement?
And Discover appears to be a reinvention of Google's wheel. Is OP going for some bloatware?

For 8 series users was forced to use Discover... Now we can use the good old Shelf too. Both even. That is a new thing
