Can I use a magnetic magnetic car mount without using the metal plate on my 3t? or will it damage the electronics?

well batteries and magnets don't go well together,so i guess using magnetic car mounts might have a bad effect on smartphones

I have been using a metal plate fixed to the back of my case for over a year now. I use it to fasten on to a magnetic holder in the car and I have found no problems with this. The phone works very well in or out of the car.

Good point, I wouldn't do. It if I were you, just find a different holder if you really need one.

I have been using for almost a year magnetic holder with metal plate and no problems. As to answer question if it can be used without the metal plate - no. It barely holds on the camera.

I have had my OP3 for a early 18 months and have used it with a case which has a steel plate built in. In the car I use a magnetic mount and have had no problem with sensors or anything else. I drive about 20 hours a week, every week so it would have shown any problems by now if it was a bad thing.

Yes, you need the plate' Magnets don't stick to aluminum. No, it won't hurt the phone unless your phone has an old floppy disk in it

Magnet might make the compass get weird, but its rarely used.
