Try to Reset WiFi, Mobile & Bluetooth -
Settings - System - Reset Options - Reset WiFi, Mobile & Bluetooth.
    It might help.

Have you tried to contact your ISP support?
OnePlus Nord has only one 5G band, N78.

No but if this was an issue of unsupported feature the device will not connect to the 5g band at all, in my case it connects at times and does not

In my opinion the OnePlus support should answer this question.

Just to make things clear here, are you talking about WiFi 5ghz network or mobile 5G network?

So there is a confusion here, @Shailender Sharma thought you where talking about mobile 5G.
In the future it's better to talk about 5ghz instead of 5g when it comes to wifi so there is no confusion :)

A way you can solve this issue you are having is to split the wifi network into two separate SSID's. One for 2.4ghz and one for 5ghz.
