Wow lots of hate of this processor! If you don't like the processor then don't get the phone....no one is making anyone buy it.
Its an upgrade- be happy about that.

The point is that OEMs should've chosen the 810 because of its power over the 801. Downclocking may make it equivalent to the 801 in performance. It's like buying a Ferrari for its performance, but the thing has overheating problems so they have limited the speed to 80mph. It's illogical to buy that car (or SOC) unless you get a big discount...

AnandTech has a nice write up regarding the differences between the SD 810 v2 and v2.1 (that will be used in the OnePlus 2). See below.

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/9388/comparing-snapdragon-810-v2-and-v21

TLDR: It's a pretty significant change where memory is concerned.

Regarding overheating: We also see some improvements in terms of thermal management, but we yet have to fully characterize just how much this improvement is and if it's enough to be able to compete with Samsung's 14nm silicon in the Galaxy S6.

People if you're here just to ***** and complain about every little spec, then don't buy it. Look into another phone then. Otherwise just quiet down and wait until the release to see what's under the hood.

So many people complaining and the hanging around the forums to troll. The phone hasn't even been released yet.

What is there to be mad? Rumors will allways be around. Most of the hate with the 810 processor comes from the haters who does not want to believe or didn't actually read about the graphite and gel that disipates heat.
Come on oneplus, haters gonna hate, you just gotta live with it and prove them wrong with great products, as I espect you to come up.

OnePlus, we get that you're mad about how everyone is bashing your "startup." I love the community behind it, but the people sitting at the round table making decisions... eh, I don't know.

If you're mad, we have as much right to be mad ourselves. The community expected a lot from you and hoped you'd deliver. If you had listened to us, you'd have a sure success on your hands. We don't care about a price increase, we just want a phone that we're proud to use. The first few batches of the OPO were awesome except for the minor yellow screen. As you guys grow, it seems you keep making worse decisions: first it was the ETAs and then the touch screen issues.

It's sad to think that the OP2 is already finalized, and that you can't change the 810 being in there. It may not be hot any more, but the performance is gonna be iffy.

We hope you'll learn from this. The OnePlus One was a great phone in the beginning, and I hope your next phone will take inspiration from the community.

I still love OnePlus, but can't make up my mind on the OP2 until we have hard evidence, not just word of mouth.

being realistic it wont outperform either of those.
It seems to me that it would run faster than the 801 as long as it doesn't have heat problems and by reducing the speed it wont. To be fair the 805 or 808 do seem like better options.
