OnePlus 2: The World’s First Product Launch in VR Jun 25, 2015

We’re excited for the future. As a tech startup, our goal is to push the envelope, look for new opportunities, and strive to perfect them. Virtual reality holds a monumental amount of potential. With cutting-edge technology, we can explore corners of the world like never before. We already know that VR will change the face of the entertainment industry, but we’re here to try something new.

In our industry, product launches tend to be the same. An auditorium, a keynote, and a seated audience. For the OnePlus 2 launch, we didn’t want that barrier between us and you; we want to invite you into our world, because you’re a major part of it. That is why we will be unveiling the OnePlus 2 to the world completely in VR. Starting July 27 at 7:00pm PT, everyone around the world can stream our launch.

Earlier this month, we teased a “secret” launch project when we asked our fans to create videos of their OnePlus stories and best smartphone photography. The fans who won those contests will help us present the entire launch of the OnePlus 2 in VR.

A VR launch lets you stand right next to our team and our fans as we unveil our new flagship. You’ll be able to look around as you check out the phone in a new way and maybe even find a few hidden Easter eggs. It’s a new way of thinking about a product launch. We aren’t talking at you; we are talking with you.

When we thought about doing this launch in VR, we wanted to make sure the viewing experience was simple and straightforward. We love the existing cardboard VR headsets, but we saw some room for improvement, and decided to design our own custom headsets. We spent a lot of time at the drawing board tweaking them until they were perfect. Our version is tailored perfectly to the One, as well as fast and easy to assemble. We didn’t cut any corners on production, and we’re definitely losing money on this. But, we want to share them with everyone. How am I supposed to wait for 1 month? My brains are all over the 2 already.

And... I would probably be in school at that time, wouldn't wanna wear the cardboard in the middle of class...
