PDAF is more than good enough, superior even, in daylight and/or at longer distances. Laser can however still be useful/better in darkness IF the object/person is close enough (for the laser to measure) ...
So, ideally a combined PDAF/LAF would actually be "the best" solution, but I guess costs needed to be cut?

If the camera would be omnivions also with low light it will work

Why? Because the OV has a bigger pixel size (and hopefully a wide aperture lens)? It helps, of course, but in near total darkness LAF can focus where PDAF won't be able to: For PDAF to work the target has to be "visible", for LAF it does not (the invisible laser will measure the distance and that measurement is used to focus).
Anyway, don't get me wrong: if you have to choose only one (PDAF or LAF), PDAF is 100% surely the way to go.
BUT, both together would be even better:

In facts... If you have to take a photo to something camera can't see... It's just useless

The other reply you got was comprehensive of everything I wanted to tell you :) Not sure how that's going to happen, but I think you'll be able to order it also from a computer, if watching the Loop event.

Then you can still use the flash to capture the picture, no? And this without having to first "light up" your target for a few seconds to even get a focus!
Again, no need to be defensive: I'm just saying that ideally the OP3 would have both PDAF and LAF, to have the best/fastest possible focus in all circumstances...

    • The secondary cam with an aperture of "only" f/2.0, compared to f/1.7 for the Galaxy S7 (Edge) and f/1.8 on the HTC 10, is not really "flagship killer"-material (for low light photography, which selfies tend to be) :( Lets hope the rear cam at least has a wider aperture...
    • This relatively "dark" lens means:
      • It had to use a slow 1/20 shutter speed causing the blur
      • It had to use a higher iso of 400, causing the noise
