Even though after releasing the Android 8 Oreo, youtube PIP was available across. I think it was buggy that I haven't received it. Also later on, in Android 9 Pie when I was using youtube I had a glance of PIP for a while and shortly that disappeared. I had the cache cleared for youtube, also re-enabled PIP for youtube. That doesn't seem to work. I understand we are an old community now. But I'm rubbing my head, that this feature existed way back in android 8 but never received to everyone and still in 9 its missing. It would be really helpful if someone can guide me on this if I'm wrong. I have checked many articles, tried different things; didn't work.

But for a moment I was able enjoy that feature, even though I'm not a premium member. And as I can see articles explaining its been rolling out to non premium members too.

I think that it was available for some regions, like USA.

    Hi,
I have a 3T and wanted to play YT vids without adverts when I was away from the phone (ie when in the shower using an bluetooth speaker) and came across Free Adblocker Browser on the app store. Installed it and it works great. This app also supports PIP which I use when I'm browsing websites on the phone and you can have YT playing in a PIP window at the same time. Hope this helps.

Free Ad Blocker Browser. It was developed by Rocketshield Browser Technology.

Stands for Picture In Picture - basically it allows apps that support it to persist in front of other apps in the form of a mini-window, and doesn't affect your interaction with the other apps on your (in this case) phone.

Yes. The browser I spoke about above is a good one for this.
