hey guys those who are complaining let me say - No phone is perfect initially , turns out it becomes good when time goes on . I believe Oneplus 5 camera is not that bad because the camera sensors are top notch .Only thing that affects the camera quality is the software . We have to wait for new software updates as there will be major improvements .

    HDR 1x 30%crop
    HQ 1x 30% crop
    Portrait mode 30%crop
HDR seems to be the culprit. And portrait mode is Right smack dab in the middle when taking photos uses a little HDR pushes the ISO more than in HQ mode. Definitely coming to the conclusion that it's a software thing. Most noticeable on the leather of the couch. Which would sort of reflect fleshtones when you're doing portraits.Would so much love to work with OnePlus on this.

agree with you. in depth feature doesn't work that good as compared to outside. you can easily see blurriness on people's forehead.

This is YouTube reviewer Krystal Key. She loves to play the 'girl' card and says GUYS way too much. However she did the best camera breakdown I've seen yet --

In your camera settings when the camera is on hit the HDR and change it to HQ if you are not happy with the quality of the image. The photos turn out so much better and uses the image sensors to the maximum and you get great results

Most definitely a onePlus software update they can fix. I think I'm going to stick with it and have faith that the company will make the HDR and portrait mode more refined over time. The camera sensors Foundation is there for a spectacular camera

Oneplus always release phones with sub-standard camera software, no exception.

And their track record for improving it really isn't good...

Getting more into the camera operation even setting the camera to HQ if you use the phone(browsing, texting, misc..) for a while it defaults back to automatic HDR this is something that needs to be resolved asap to keep the camera in the last setting instead of defaulting. This is a very annoying thing actually. Using the phone pulling it out to take a picture of something later on in the day and the default is HDR automatic. OnePlus please respond

Use zooming in camera app rather than cropping. You'll get better results. :)

Returned it for this very reason. Wanted to love this phone. Think it's amazing minus the camera. Cloudy and underwhelming camera is a deal breaker. Back to my ip7+ :(

I agree with you that experience is now inconsistent. Auto is not so advanced, even exposure and color hits most of time, so you need to know what you're doing otherwise one can get crappy shots, that some people are complaining about all over this place. If you learn all different modes, HQ, HDR, HDRa, manual, when and how to use them, how to set focus and exposure correctly you can get nice photos most of time. It's simply not yet as point and shoot experience as S8 for example. One have to think about what he's doing. :)

Maybe, but if I want to play about with aperture and macro then I'll use my SLR camera. A phone camera has to have point-and-click as primary function, otherwise you use a proper camera. The camera is good, it's just that I've used better.

Agree - HDR seems to push the ISO levels up significantly and creates a lot of noise
