    Most phones don't come encrypted. One would have to manually do it from security settings.

    However, OnePlus is encrypted. A friend of mine has the OnePlus 5 since yesterday.

    Wouldn't that hinder the performance of the device?

    It does cause a performance decrease, but I think it's possible to disable it, if you want to get the full performance.

    That would be to factory reset the device again. There is no option to click on decrypt in the security settings.

    Yes, it does. I can confirm with a screenshot if necessary.

    The performance hit is minimal. 3-4% at the most. You're more likely to benefit from your phone being encrypted if it's lost than noticing the performance increase from unencrypting it.

    I don't thinks that will help, if I remember correctly you need to install third-party software.

    Let me ge this straight;
    Oneplus 5 has encryption - but do you need to enable it or is it already enabled? If it's enabled then can you disable it?
    Do you guys also know what kind of encryption it is & how secure it is?

    The process for removing encryption in Android is to wipe the phone. This is for security.

    I'm not sure how this makes sense? I guess if you made a custom ROM that supported decryption you could... but I haven't seen that feature in any ROMs. Even custom ones.

    It's encrypted from the start. It can't be disabled easily, and I will not recommend it, the benefits of encryption is far greater than the performance benefit. It's encrypted with a 128-bit AES master key, which is then encrypted with your password and a salt.

    Thank you for the information. It's amazing how fast OP5 boots up and works with encryption pre-activated.

    Edit: For what it's worth, the menus are initially white and I've changed the phone to the dark theme.
