OnePlus 5T - CPU Throttling Issues

  1. Srivats Cupcake Oct 21, 2018

    Srivats, Oct 21, 2018 :
CPU on my OnePlus 5T is throttling. Thus, performing poorly on extensive loads such as running PUBG Mobile. Also, CPU Temprature in the below test never rose above 50-52° C. Whereas, a OnePlus 6, i ran the same test on, reached 95° C and faced no such throttling issues.

    My Device: OnePlus 5T
    Oxygen OS Version: 5.1.5
    Android Version: 8.1.0

    Please, Help!

Was that a hypothetical example, or the only one you actually care about?

Not a hypothetical one. Poor performance in PUBG is the reason that motivated me to run this throttling test in the first place

    Thank you!
But i don't think problem here is specific to PUBG. The fact that CPU is throttling, and its temperature isn't rising above 50° C on an extended load, is more concerning.

A screenshot of the same test on a OnePlus 6

Here it can be seen, that the Max CPU temperature was 95° C

That's above the allowed range for CMOS (max 85C). If that's reading right, you'll soon a have a nice new paperweight. Only military/industrial can go higher and your chip is NOT.

Put a hand to the boiling water if you want to know

DON'T DO IT (in case if you think about it)

    1. Throttling on mobile devices is normal
    2. It is needed to protect the hardware from damage
    3. It can be disabled only with root access
    4. You should be concerned about GPU throttling, not CPU throttling, sice GPU is much more important during gaming
    5. Remember that OP6 has higher performance and you didn't provide info about what setting do you use in the game

    Any questions?
