Same here, I tried through stock recovery and was successful. But reverted back to Oreo+TWRP as root access is a must for me.

Yup on Oreo now. Just found this, there apparently is a solution for this error 7 to remove some lines from the installation script. Not my video FYI -

If you don't mind me asking, why didn't you root pie itself?

Pie was only working with stock recovery. And I was not able to flash magisk/ root on stock.

Hi! -- It looks like there is a file named "compatibility.zip" inside the OP5T OB20 (and OP5 OB22) ROM zip file. It appears it does some checks to make sure your device is compatible with the ROM you're trying to install, and one of the checks is having OnePlus' recovery. If you delete this "compatibility.zip" file from the ROM archive, you should be able to flash it using TWRP.

Yes, I tried this later and was successful. But ran into another issue where the TWRP recovery is replaced by the stock when i flash Pie Beta zip.

Not sure how others are flashing it. I found very few people mentioning this issue. I guess not many people are rooting their 5/5t phones. Or are using a different recovery than twrp. I read that this might be due to treble system partitioning.

Well, you have to make sure that you flash Magisk immediately after an OOS ROM, and before you reboot to system. If you flash an OOS ROM and reboot to system, without having flashed Magisk, then OnePlus recovery will overwrite TWRP.

In TWRP --> flash OOS --> flash Magisk --> (wipe cache) --> reboot to system.

TWRP on my device seems to stick if I follow these steps.

Yes the boot of Android by default will revert to stock recovery. What you're getting is normal.
TWRP when it is switched off will patch this mechanism. But for that you need to have verity disabled (kernel, magisk, supersu or simply noverity needs to be installed and reboot done in TWRP)

Did you try crDroid's version of TWRP? I saw someone mention that it supports Pie based ROMs for 5t. I'm using it and I've got root on pie.

Thanks , I'll try again. I don't remember if i flashed Magisk immediately after. Are you using the official TWRP or any other flavour?

Thanks bud. Using the Codeworkx TWRP worked. Rooted + Pie + twrp.
Looks like Official TWRP doesn't support Pie yet. Flashing Magisk after Pie simply resulted in rebooting into recovery.
Can someone from the Mods please update the first post in this thread to reflect this. Thanks.

First posts don't point to official TWRP downloads but to Codeworkx and Blu_Spark. I'm myself using blu_spark twrp and Magisk 18.

Yes that is true but the official TWRP did support Oreo, but not Pie. Better to have more information.

You've only installed Magisk Manager. You need to install Magisk from recovery.

That's it, you have Magisk installed. If you want to add modules tap on the hamburger menu in the left top corner. There in the download menu you'll see available modules. If you are new to this, read about them first on xda forum.
