I recently got my new OnePlus 5T (replacement) since my old mobile was beyond repair. And this new device is running on older android version (screenshot attached)
how do I upgrade? I tried manual local upgrade by downloading the latest OS from oneplus support but it says "installation failed".

Device is running 7.1.1, think you need to go with a older update before you flash A10

Are you sure you downloaded a ROM for OP5T? Trying to flash a ROM for a different device (OP5 e.g. will fail). Your file must hold .zip extension.
Best way to flash is to activate USB debug, connect to a computer and flash a full ROM with fastboot command. It will override all securities so beware. But it's why it's so efficient.

Installation failed is showing because you upgrading directly to A10 build which is based on the Project treble.
So first update your phone to Oxygen OS version 5.1.5 which had enabled the project treble for 5/T.
    And then update further.

BTW what is showing when you clicking on normal software update in Settings, I think it will showing 5.1.4 or 5.1.5 something.

They usually provide official builds as old builds are not available on the official websites.
For the safer side make backup of your important data before upgrading, usually they is no data loss in stable to stable version upgrade.
