Oneplus 6 camera issues after Android 9.0

Since the update to Android 9.x I am experiencing a lot of issues with the camera. Didn't notice other reports about the same, so decided to start a new thread:

The camera works just TOO SLOWLY - launching the interface and being ready to shoot a photo takes between 3 and 5 seconds. Switching from photo mode to video mode it takes like 5 additional seconds. Often, when I start shooting the video, the app feels frozen. Stopping the recording takes another 4-5 seconds and very often I can notice something like a software reboot right after I close the app.

    Things tried so far:
    - cleaning the app data and cache. No change
    - cleaning app cache via recovery - no change
    - installed OpenCamera and it works much faster and with less problems. However, even though it is selected as default camera, the UI cannot assign it to be the default when using the double press of the power button (an old annoyance that Oneplus keep with their ROMs).

The only way thins to get better is to make a complete restart of the phone, and then the camera works alright for 2-3 hours.

Never had issues like that with older Oneplus phones.
I am running entirely STOCK configuration, 9.02, no root.
