OnePlus 6 camera takes blurry and noisy pictures

Are you having issues with OnePlus 6 camera as described in this thread?

  1. Yes, I am having issues with camera taking blurry, noisy, and highly post processed pictures

  2. No, I am not having any issue with camera

I'm convinced the root cause of this problem is that the Shutter and ISO values that oneplus uses to take the photo are selected during the "live preview/viewfinder" mode which is already enhanced with high contrast and color saturation. However the exposure settings should be based on original sensor data, not the enhanced high-contrast version.

Its not really the sensor and lenses....mostly just the software. I think OP camera is basing exposure settings on the high contrast, color saturated live-preview instead of using original sensor data to determine exposure settings.

It cant be the sensor or lenses because my lenovo phone has cheaper lens and sensor but still that phone chooses the correct ISO and shutter speed, similar to my iPhone.

Its definitely a software error causing ultra-bright raw images leading to noisy and grainy final images.

the Lenovo sensor is capable of ISO 40...?

the lens setup is as important...
thinking of loss of details towards the edges cause of lens distortion or chromatic abberation...

that all has to be corrected by software...

Lenovo lowest ISO is also 100 however in typical low indoor light photo it uses ISO 600 or so when OP6 uses ISO 2000 or so

Its a Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro

Yeah but OP6 has a high end sensor with similar size to iPhone X sensor (1.22um pixels)

The sensor on OP6 is actually bigger than the iphone X wide angle sensor because the pixel size is same 1.22um but OP6 has 16MP vs iPhone's 12MP.

Its just a real sloppy job done by the camera software on Oneplus to produce such useless images especially in low light.

Thanks for your detailed analysis and debugging of the camera processing issues. I hope that 1+6 uses it to really get better programming done around it.

An interesting additional point is when I used pro mode for getting the raw pics I noticed that even those pics were blurry which I thought was strange so maybe it's the software from the signal processor through to the phone which is bad too?

that's true fact when I tried in HDR mode the pixel quality is just worst I have ever seen.. I have seen such quality in 2-5 mega pixel cameras phn.. it's blury, pixed just seem like crying..

on a serious note I think you need to update camera quality, no background blur, and zoom is just even more worst,
no clearity even in selfie in HDR mode...

You clearly have a defective camera. It's time to exchange for a working one.

I too observed similar issues with focus and sharpness. I recently went to yellowstone and in many photos the subject turned out be out of focus after taking the pictures. The preivew showed everything crisp and clear. Video recording suffers from foucs issues and drops focus many times. My 2 yr old S7 edge was able to take much better photos crisp and in focus. There is definitely software issues that needs to be addressed.

I agree with this. I have just also noticed this issue where the live preview of the subject being photographed is crisp and clear but after taking the photo it turns out blurry and out of focus. I think it is also definitely a software issue rather than hardware since the live preview always looks clear but after being processed the quality of the images are lessened. Hope the OP team are aware of this issue and they address this in the next software update.

The act of pushing on the screen with a finger or shaky hands may be responsible for making a blurry pic if in low light conditions. Long exposure exacerbates problems of moving the phone slightly while the picture is being taken. I have naturally shaky hands so I've always had problems with low light even with the best cameras like Pixel, so I always have to take 4-5 shots in hopes that one comes out well focused/not blurry. On the other hand, S9 always takes perfect pix in low light because it has huge pixels and a large aperture, so the exposure doesn't have to be so long.

If that isn't the problem, you can test your theory by switching into Pro mode of the camera and taking RAW images, where the camera does no post processing. See if that helps?

Very well put concerns. I too have issues with the camera mainly with the sharpness and details. As soon as I zoom in the picture I see there's over smoothened and lack detail. Hope this basic thing can be rectified else the hype around the OP6 camera would totally be a let down.

Thanks for the reply. I've only had this issue with the 1+6 and not any other phone before. It's pretty much a universal way to ensure that you get the phone to focus in on the right spot where you want it to focus on and get the right light exposure.

You don't take a photo with the finger on the screen touching the focus point.

Yes, I tested this with going to pro mode and checking the raw pics and it's still blurry.

There's something off with the processing of the pic as I think everyone sees an in focus photo before taking the pic but somehow in the processing it just doesn't work out right.

I've tried tinkering with the pro mode as well as manually setting where the focus should be. Like I've stated, everything looks crisp and clear on the preview but once I've taken the photos it all turns out blurry and unfocused.

Welcome to OP family. Issue persist from OP5T. You shouldn't have bought one plus if you wanted a decent camera.

Not hating on it or anything and despite this issue I still think this phone as well as the camera is great but if it can be fixed then that would be amazing.

Haha, well like I've said before the pricing is getting high enough that we shouldn't have bad camera processing.

If they don't fix, that's fine, I just won't buy another one and go a Pixel or another phone.
