It's going to be this way on all new phones

Many phones don't even have a recovery anymore. At least oneplus put efforts to make one

Btw I'm really happy that we have a vbmeta partition. This means that we can flash custom ROMs on locked bootloaders. It won't be easy but this partition makes it possible

I have a question, in op6, if I copy the original 5.1.5 zip rom into the phone, do I still have the option to flash it through Settings, System updates- local upgrade as before?

Your bootloader is locked, i have no idea if it can be unlocked in the state your op6 are in.
Maybe any oneplus experts has some idea?

Hey DrRambone. Thanks for your helpful posts. I've downloaded all the img files and they all flash, except for the 2 big ones "system" and "vendor" because fastboot says they're too big, so I think I was able to use sparse to load them with a smaller download size:

    fastboot flash -S 400M system vbmeta.img

So I think I got them all flashed, but now, nothing happens, I relocked the bootloader, reboot the phone, and it's just a black screen after a couple "Powered by Android" screens.. the status LED is on though

when you boot to fastboot, you can just enter "fastboot oem unlock" on your computer and it will give you a prompt on your phone to unlock it.

Quick question. I'm essentially in the same situation - bricked phone, except it's a Chinese version running HydrogenOS. I manually extracted the .img files from the latest HydrogenOS .zip, and ended up with a few .img files that aren't included in your list (eg. I have an abli.img, devcfg.img). Should I go ahead and flash them all anyways, in order as they appear in my extracted folder? ie. Does the order you gave matter, and do the extra .img files I have matter?

Thanks, trying not to mess up the phone anymore haha.

So, your phone is booted to fastboot, you can see the fastboot menu on the screen? Your phone is connected to your computer?
If you open a command prompt and type "fastboot devices", does it show your phone's serial number?
