I'm sure there's a huge market for them to go back and start squeezing their new phones into two year old models immediately after a huge worldwide release campaign.

There's, like, a hundred reasons, but here's the main one:
    • The components in the phone are extremely tiny layered circuit boards that are soldered together. Basically, they ain't coming out unless you break them and rip them out.

I mean, they could slap the parts from a OnePlus 7 Pro into a toaster if they wanted to. The fact of the matter is that it would take a huge amount of R&D to make these newer parts work in an older phone. Basically, the entire mainboard would have to be replaced with one that would simply fit in the OP5 shell.

I know what you mean i knew it wouldn't work but i would be happy if it would work and stuff because the op5 is a good phone still would have been cool if they could do it in any way possible

Your best bet is to upgrade to the regular OnePlus 7 at that point

Well, then, that's your option. Like you said, the OP5 is still a really good phone, so there's no real need to upgrade right now.
