Brand new United States OnePlus user after 16+ years with Blackberry.

I just purchased an unlocked OnePlus 7 pro with the following phone details:

    Oxygen OS 9.5.3 GM21AA
    Security patch April 1, 2019
    Model #GM1915
    Current Network = ATT

When following the directions provided by OnePlus for upgrading the OS to 10.3.3.GM21AA, I get an "installation has failed" message. When using Oxygen Updater app I get a message that my OS is up to date. I also get this when trying to update from the phone's system update. Does anyone know why this is?

The first post in this thread states that packages with build tag GM21AA are intended for Global/unlocked US and India variants (GM1911 & GM1917) and that GM31CB is intended for T-Mobile. I'm confused because my current OS is with a US unlocked build tag yet my device seems to be an unlocked T-mobile. Could this why I am having an issue updating the OS? Are there other issues with T-Mobile variant of this phone?

OnePlus customer service is atrocious and might steer me away from this phone

You have to upgrade to 10.3.0 first.

    What's your model number?

Then yes, you are indeed using a T-Mobile device. When you boot up the phone, is there a T-Mo startup animation?

No, there is no T-mobile splash screen and the OS is 9.5.3GM21AA which is for India and US Unlocked. I assume since T-mobile has unlocked this phone that it can then get that OS.

    Couple of questions:

I've been rooting phones since Nokia candy bar phones were big (before blackberry) and though blackberrys could never be rooted, I'm pretty good with such things. Does this phone being a T-Mobile model cause issues more so than other models?

Does this website have OS mirrors that I can download OS 10.3 from and install manually?

Is OnePlus phone support as bad as it seems?

Thanks for your help and clarification.

It sounds like you have a converted T-Mo device (I assume you bought second-hand or refurbed) and are having trouble updating. I suggest giving Oxygen Updater a try. It'll give you the right ROM to use to upgrade effectively as it reads the model number and pulls up the correct one.

Oxygen updater says my system is up to date OxygenOS 9.5.3.GM21AA

I bought it off Ebay from Adopt-A-Phone as new opened box. I assumed they bought it new and had it unlocked by T-mobile, but they have an extremely high approval rating and they sell tons of phones. I can return it if you think this is an issue.

There's a major difference between "unlocked" and "converted". Unlocked means it's not bound to T-Mo and can be used with any carrier you want. Converted means installing the global ROM onto a T-Mo device through installing a specific build. I would give XDA-Developers a look on how to convert T-Mo to global.

So you are telling me that this is a "converted" device because it currently has a global ROM and it's a T-mobile model? If so then i would return it because they misrepresented the product as "unlocked" when it seems to be converted and will likely be more of a headache than just buying a new one that is truly unlocked.

Always research the model numbers before buying as you could've easily gotten a Chinese device. Do you have a 7 Pro 5G or non-5G?

I believe it not 5G. This is the link to where I purchased and they have 100% feedback https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OnePlu...var=542726495648&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I'm not trying to find the 10.3.0 OS download from somewhere on the XDA-Developers site, but all I'm seeing is custom ROMs when I want a stock one from OnePlus

Okay, I was wrong. It's 10.0.1 you need, not 10.3.0. Man, this version split is confusing!

Just got off the phone if OnePlus tech support and they said its NOT a T-mobile, but rather an unlocked Chinese demo variant and the software can NOT be upgraded since its a demo.

    So back it goes.
