Double tap to wake not working here either. Started last night, at which point I discovered it's only not working in dim light. Turned on the main lights and it works perfectly. Hopefully this one gets fixed quickly.

Have not tried with daylight. Having the same issue. Finished setting up the phone, fully updated. Sitting next to my OnePlus 6T, both same exact settings. No issues with the 6T. I have it in the carbon bumper case. I noticed the glitch when I was trying to activate the flashlight with the V gesture. Then tried changing music with > and < and no luck either... Ugh! I really use those gesture features... Hopefully fix on the way..!

Tested it under bright light and works after you lock it under bright light. Shut off the light and locked phone, stops working.

I've had my double tap to wake not work and more than once now I've had the phone just completely freeze up. This morning was the worst. I rolled over and tried to double tap to wake to check the time and it wouldn't work. I pressed the power button and the screen didn't come on. I double tapped the screen a couple of times and then tried to hold the power button down as if the phone was maybe off.... finally after several attempts over maybe a minute the screen turned on and I had a white spot in the middle of the display that was pulsating as if that was where I was tapping.. Finally using the fingerprint scanner unlocked the phone and the white spot went away and the phone worked fine the rest of the morning. but I've had it just completely lock up on me like this numerous times since I picked it up Friday. each time it seems to get worse. Hopefully I can just swap it out and it's hardware related????

Same problem here, under bright lighting: no issue. A little darker environment: no ambient display. tbh this would be a reason for me to get my money back, hope it´s fixable via an update

Update: it is now working perfectly fine... even when light sensor reading was < 10 lx. During the time I used the phone under sun light for a few minutes, not sure if it's related.

It seems that "100lx" on the light sensor is doing the trick... I can not consistently reproduce the problem.

So I turned on light in a room and turn off all lights in the hallway, and hopped in/out the room to check if ambient display and double-tap-to-wake still works. At the same time I used a sensor app to check the reading from the light sensor.

When I stepped out of the door until reading dropped below 100lx, ambient display and the DTTW never works:

As soon as I get to lighter position inside the room, when light reading is above 100lx, those two features work perfectly:

I can consistently get this bug on/off by hopping across the door... while my girlfriend laughs at my ritual to this new phone.

I really like the OP 7 pro. I hope this little experiment can help the dev solve this (a bit annoying) issue.

I too am experiencing the lack of double tap and ambient display in darker settings. Cannot confirm it works in brighter rooms.

I can confirm that I had this problem in low light. As soon as I put the device under my desk lamp everything started working again.

I am having the same issue. After reading everyones comments, I can confirm it is a light issue. I think the sensor thinks it still in a pocket so that is why double tap/pick up your phone to show is not working. Hopefully a quick fixed will be pushed out.

Same Issue here. Reliable to reproduce. Ambient display is working perfectly if i am standig directly under my lamp in the living room. If i go to a darker place in my room it´s reliable not working. Problem starts when the sun was rising as it got darker and darker. Now it doesn´t work in all my flat. Only if i am standig directly under a lamp.

UPDATE to complete the issue: Both methods do completely not work with low light. Tapping and moving the phone It´s really annoying. It seems like many sensors in the phone are deactivated with low light.

I subscribe every issue mentioned here. I have drawing a V set up to turn the torch on/off and it's not working, which defeats the whole point of needing a torch. I need a torch when in low light conditions and not in well lit environments! I was also trying to look for the "pocket mode" under settings as all previous OnePlus phones had this, but apparently it doesn't exist anymore. Could this be related as the phone is assuming pocket mode in low light when it should assume pocket mode in no light at all? Anyway, screen needs to be ready to be activated in no light conditions as well, otherwise how is one activating the torch via screen gestures? Hope all this gets solved quickly.

@alexoldman: OK, thats great. Thank you!

Without a Notification LED the ambient display must work reliable. Otherwise the phone is useless for me
