I'm on my second charge so the phone has had a little time to settle in and I feel like it's pretty decent on the battery life.

I am a relatively light user (in terms of the apps I use) but heavy user in that I'm often on my phone.

the idle drain needs more time to settle down so will be interesting to see where that ends up. On my OP6 it used to be around 0.8% to 1.4% per hour depending on my usage.

Active drain on my OP6 used to be between 10% to 11.5% an hour. Again it's early days as today I have been on WiFi indoors so not needing to keep the screen bight. In similar situations with my OP6, I would get similar stats.

These figures are with 90hz at 1440p. I feel like the extra battery has compensated for the extra drain nicely when comparing OP6 to OP7 Pro.

When custom kernels start maturing it should hopefully get even better!

Hi I'm considering buying a 5g OnePlus 7 however I don't live in a 5g area. I'm just wondering if the phone will keep searching for a 5g signal hence reduce battery life or will the phone have an option to turn 5g off?

Sure a software update with some more optimization for the hz and resolution will make wonders for improvement for the battery life.

This is my battery life for 90hz and auto resolution. Facebook, YouTube and web browsing mostly.

I'm now charging to 100% and will test 60hz and 1080p.

Once post your battery tests please describe the following :

    - what strength is your brightness (variation also) ? ( it can seriously change if you have it on 100% all the time or 10% or autobrightness which goes between 30-50% brightness)
    - of course if you are on QHD or FHD / 60Hz or 90Hz
    - dual sim usage or single sim? (this would use two different radios thus using more battery)
    - on wifi most of the time or not? (being on wifi will less drain than being on LTE/GSM searching for reception)
    - BT Music/Video streaming or speaker
    - GPS (using navigation is a killer with Waze or Maps)
    - how many email accounts are syncing in Push or Pull (for example : gmail push, outlook pull every 15mins)
    - How many cycles has the battery?

The more precise information you can give the more the people can relate to your usage as everyone uses the phone differently.

If someone is at the office, using 50% brightness, on Wifi, watching netflix (naughty!) and BT earphones will be different using it in a car driving with 90% brightness, GPS and Maps (or Waze) listening to spotify over BT.

From my understanding if there's no 5G service available your phone would just pick up the 4G signal instead.

why would you wanna spend the extra just to get 5g in an area where there is no 5g?
rest of the hardware is identical

I was going to get this as I thought the resale value would be higher. I get a discounted monthly rental through EE with my employer. So monthly contact + value of a OnePlus 7 pro 256gb is only £6 more over the 2 years. I presume when OnePlus decide to sell it sim free it will cost more to buy.

    That was my reasoning

It's a little early don't you think? The 5G OP7 hasn't been announced yet so no one here will have any true response, just guesses. I would imagine it would be a slight impact if your phone is searching for 5G, but I can't imagine it would be that noticeable.

I assume you can just restrict the phone to 4G/3G as you can at present with 3G/2G, effectively turning off 4G searching? I'm wondering whether to get the 5G version now as that will be future proofed for it's lifetime, I don't want to get a 4G then find this time next year (and the year after) everybody is using 5G in all the major UK towns.

Pre-order is now online at EE for delivery on the 30 May.
