I have the same problem here, when playing pubg 44 to 45°C and the first month it was all fine no heat like that. On the general stuff like watching you tube or running other apps it gets around 40°C, and before it was just around 35°C

Overheat generally means a problem, just like a car. It shuts down or the radiator boils over. If you aren't getting any errors, then your phone is not overheating, it is just heating.

CPU, GPU running cause heat, Batteries get hot when they charge, and they got hot when the drain. The faster they drain or charge, the hotter they get. Radios cause heat - this includes cellular, BT, and wifi. Poor signal and more radio power is needed, and more heat is created. Screens cause heat too. And whatever case you have is not helping.

You can do a few things about this:
    Turn down brightness
Turn down refresh rate of screen
    Limit CPU/GPU if possible
    Airplane mode

But every phone forum has threads about phones getting hot. Electricity creates heat, and that will never stop.

I think it's really good so far. My phone hasn't even had chance to learn my usage and optimize itself. I'm getting around 7 to 8 hours screen on and 17 hours standby. Still hovering at 30% at 11.30pm. 90hz but fhd. I find qhd annoying lol.

LOL Go and download the game Torque Drift on the google play store and play that for 5 min.

When I play with the game even on low settings my cpu overheats to 45 / 50 degrees and my battery goes 30 / 35 / 40 degrees. I built a fan for the phone and it helps to extend the time a bit but thats about it.

IT IS RIDICULOUS HOW BAD THE CPU IS regarding heat / cooling.

And yes indeed this also happens when charging.

I bought the karbon OnePlus case with my phone and although I'm not a fan of clear the black karbon stays in my closet now because my phone gets very hot if I charge with that case on it. Stuck with the clear .

Cpu overheats at 45-50? It goes up to around 80 °C before it even starts thinking about using thermal throttling...
The better thermal contact with chassi the longer timeframe of peak performance.

This phone is way better than for example Sony XZ3 in regards to heat handling. That device started to throttle long before a finished test on "CPU throttling test" app. It had a much clearer hot area while this phone spreads the heat out to a higher degree.
A bad result here could be proof of a bad device (run without a case in a reasonable normal environment)

The device get hot to hold due to it leads away the heat from the SoC to chassi. The chassi can not store a endless amount of energy.
There are ways to make the phone much more comfortable to hold in the long run when gaming... But would you prefer higher degree of thermal throttling in favor of colder chassi?
There are downsides of good thermal contact besides hot to hold... The heat in the chassi add heat to the battery.

    It's all about making compromises.

9.5.7 i could tell right away that it was draining that battery like 1 percent of every two minutes of use, and i was like what is going on and that clean dalvik and clean rom, so after that went to 9.5.10 and all went back to normal

Just bought my Oneplus 7 and upgraded over the Oneplus 3T. Was wondering what is the average on screen battery endurance that other users here experience. It took me 8 hours 6minutes to dip to 22% with browsing youtube and a bit benchmarking.. Is this normal.
inutes to dip down to 22%

There is no objective measurement of average time as lot depends on the use like apps used, type of apps, functions like more of using device to watch video, take photos, browsing and combination of all of this.

Your battery stats are pretty good.

You can continue to discuss in existing battery thread. Thread merged.

No worries. Community app is bit different then browser and I can understand it requires some time to get use to it.

That is a good point. I am a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff regarding heat but I do understand you.

However... I hope they will patch cpu usage in the next update where it doesn't go full cpu every single time.
    Thanks tho.

I have a huge problem with stand-by power consumption:
Some of my devices, like iPhone 6s, Galaxy S10+, Huawei P20 Pro and others, IN STAND-BY with these settings (may be different device by device) and same apps installed:

    - WiFi [ON]
    - Location [OFF]
    - Mobile Data [OFF]
    - Brightness [40%]
    - Refresh Rate [90Hz]
    - Screen Resolution [DYNAMIC]
    - Ambient Display [ON]
--- Pick up your phone to show [ON]
--- Tap the Screen to Show [ON]
    --- New Notifications [ON]
    - Double Tap to Wake [OFF]

are consuming up to 1-2% battery at night.
OnePlus 7 Pro, with Oxygen OS 9.5.10, uses up to 12% battery at night.

I tried with WiFi off and power save mode on, but with same results. Battery info doesn't show nothing strange and no apps are running and consuming in background. So it is an Oxygen OS issue.

12% during the whole night or per hour?
BetterBatteryStats is what I use to get as much info as possible.
My standby is usually all the way down to 0.3-0.4% per hour. Wifi on. Mobile on. Location on. Bluetooth off.

Answer : The 4000mAh battery is not sufficient when you use your device for video streaming, high resolution Graphics video games etc.
Tips :You can definitely improve battery consumption by changing some settings like using the 60 Hz screen refresh rate and using the auto switch mode for the resolution and using dark theme instead of colorful or light. The dark theme definitely works in improving your battery life and backup throughout the day as black for oled screens means the Pixels are off. For a huge screen such as 7 pro dark theme saves you a lot of battery. Also switch off touch sounds and touch vibrate if not needed. Turn off those 3 animations in the developers option thus saving some more battery.
