I'm surprised there hasn't been more excitement or talk about the 7 Pro featuring Dual-Frequency GNSS. It is going to make the GPS positioning accuracy on the device extremely accurate; great for those of us that live in major cities!

That was the deciding factor for me to upgrade, I've been wanting dual band GPS, I am a OP1 user who has been waiting for that feature to upgrade. If the OP7 didn't have it, I'd have got something that did.

Oh man, then that will be a huge upgrade across the board! I'm not sure if your OnePlus One has the same issue, but my GPS would take multiple minutes just to get a location lock. Drove me nuts.

I'm also surprised that no one has discussed this or even reviewed this in a video yet. I'm a happy 3T owner and had no reason to move on. The only reason I migrated or I ordered, I should say, my new 7 Pro is because it had this new GPS technology. I hope it works better in the city then current technology but I haven't heard any reviews yet. Thanks for mentioning this.

When my unit arrives I intend on testing it out thoroughly and I'll post my results for anybody has results please share them.

Please let us know if this gets any better. I imagine once it's locked in it'll remember the location of satellites and it will lock in easily subsequently. That's been my experience with every GPS unit I've ever owned. I've owned many stand-alone units.

It is a little strange that none of the major reviewers mentioned it or picked up on it. To be fair, OnePlus didn't make a big deal about it either (marketing wise), so it most likely just flew under most people's radars.

Definitely excited to test it out in a couple major cities (I will be visiting San Francisco and Chicago in the coming days/weeks), and I'll be sure to post my results.

Same here - main reason for waiting for 7 for me. But seeing the first test, looks like GNSS performance is actually really bad:
(...) our review unit to achieve a satellite fix with up to 6 metres accuracy outdoors, which is comparatively inaccurate for a flagship smartphone.

Likewise, we were surprised to see that the 7 Pro could not find a satellite when we tested it indoors

Looks like a very poor performance compared to, for example, S10 or Mi9.

I get plenty of satellite reception indoors, with several L5 and E5 frequencies used, here is a screenshot taken from inside a brick building. SBAS does show after minute or so.

This is a little concerning to hear. It will be interesting to see if this is the same case for the average consumer as well.

The potential for increased location accuracy was definitely one of the major factors that lead me to make the purchase.

Glad to hear your unit is getting good L1 and L5 signals indoors. I should be able to post some initial results once I set up my 7 Pro later today.

So after playing around with Maps and location services for a few hours, my results are interesting. So far I've only tested the phone indoors within a few buildings at work. The accuracy of the GPS positioning seems to vary. Sometimes it's definitely not as pinpoint as I had expected (articles about dual-frequency GNSS mentioned accuracy as low as 30cm at it's best), with Google Maps displaying my location as far away as 6 meters. Other times it's dead on; displaying my location within 1 foot of my actual location.

This is of course with the Wi-Fi scanning setting turned off. Turning it on definitely makes it more accurate, but I'd rather have that feature off to preserve battery.

Thanks for posting the results. I just got my phone today I'm setting it up and I'll be testing it myself and I'll post my results. I live in New York City and I do have quite a bit of accuracy problems in certain areas and I unfortunately have a lot of dropouts with my 3T. My power settings are correct but doesn't matter because the 7 will be my new phone.

I have a feeling that this will be better than the old phone it's just a matter of how much better.

Can you tell me what software do you use to see those statistics or where I can see them without special software? That's a great detailed list which I cannot seem to access on my phone. Thank you in advance.

I have narrowed the issue down to receiving calls when using Waze on Android Auto. Could anyone please test this and confirm?

I'll have to download the gpstest app and take a look at the results. Though from what it looks like based on the above screenshots, it seems the phone is definitely picking up the extra L5 and E5a frequencies. Hopefully the average accuracy can get better in time with updates.
