I'm curious, I know there's an international ROM for the 5G UK version, has anyone tried flashing that onto their T-Mobile variant and see if that (5G) worked for them?

Not surprising. While the service is called 5G, this is accomplished by a number of different methods depending on the vendors. Conflicting standards all called "5G". Even in the US 5G will use a number of different frequencies and hardware depending on the vendor (ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile and more). Suspect that's why the modem is still a separate chip on the new Snapdragon 865 recently announced by Qualcomm. Will this ever improve? As many different countries governmental bodies control the frequency spectrum tightly and sometimes have conflicting uses, this is doubtful for long time into the future.

Eventually 5G will have been out and the different frequencies and methods will have stabilized you'll see chip makers able to incorporate all the different methods into a single or much smaller selection of SoC's. Perhaps the OnePlus 8 or maybe even as late as the 9 will eventually have 5G "international" supported phones and that will be that it covers "some" of the frequency bands of a particular provider to claim 5G support.

Well according the T mobile website my area is saturated with 5G, according to the guy at the T mobile store, this afternoon, the website is wrong his quote" they just lable everything in the are with the color, but its not accurate" .. I dont have the screen shots right now, But on WIFI 5 feet from the access point, my Pixel gets 180Mbs Download and 22 Download, The Oneplus sitting right next to it gets 78 MB down and 11 up,

When I get a 5G signal( which is rare) i get maybe 3MBs Download but 22 MBS upload , But with LTE my Pixel gets between 50 and 60 MBs download and 11-12 Down , the OnePlus gets around 32MB down and 8-10 upload

That's the type of phone they give away if you sign up for pay as you go plan. I can't find an English review on it. Old Android 9, Sept security patch, 64G, a whatever processor, small screen, cheap camera, and where on Earth do they sell it? Is there even 5G available? Please don't brag about owning a junk phone. As noted this is an OP community and McLaren thread. Go pick on Apple. I think it was 6 years ago I had a 64 G phone.

Question about a case for this. is there an OtterBox Defender style case with holster clip for these phones yet? also will a dual SIM from a 6T fit in this as well?

Only thing I've found so far that is rugged style with a holster. You can get it on eBay for twenty bucks but the shipping time sucks even with expedited shipping, so I got it off their website instead.

I have had my McLaren phone for about a day. It is just like wifi in that speeds will go up and then go down. My speeds are about 25%-30% faster than LTE. I am in El Paso. We have pretty good LTE and now pretty good 5G coverage with the low band signal. I am not an engineer, but the 1TB speeds that everyone thought years ago were possible, I do not think will reached anytime soon. For the high band, high speed people want, the towers would need to be super close together. Even if one was able to get the high speeds on the street, as soon as they enter into a concrete or steel building, the speeds, on the this high band would drop down to a snails pace. The low band and mid band levels are where you get fairly decent increases in speed and decent coverage within buildings and homes. I think this will be similar to when the world went from 3G to 4G to LTE. It will be a long 10 years to come.
