OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren GPS lag via OnePlus Community App

  1. tile00 , via OnePlus Community App , Dec 8, 2019 :
I have McLaren 5G on T-Mobile. Every time I use Google maps it loses my location intermittently. Obviously this is unacceptable. There can be no lag on location services with mapping apps.

I have the same issue. Deal breaker. Lags and freezes in maps sometimes upward of 30 seconds. Missed turns, screwed up directions. This is sitting on my dash where countless other older phones did just fine.

Should I return to TMobile for another one or do they ALL do this?

    Hey there everyone,

I am currently experiencing the same issue. Neither Google Maps nor Waze is working. they will turn on, begin the route, but as soon as I drive a few yards the GPs signal gets lost or it shows that I am located somewhere completely off the map. I've already contacted T-Mobile about the issue and did some basic troubleshooting steps.

They adviced to contact O+, which I have already. They could not do anything at this point besides relay the issue to their IT team. I did receive a few troubleshooting steps to try to resolve the issue but those do not work either. Let me know if anyone wants them. Lastly, let me know if anyone finds a solution or a way around this. My phone is essentially useless since I rely heavily on my GPS for work.

Same exact issue here too. Regardless of navigation app, GPS lock is intermittent (working less than 50% of the time on a four hour drive), with three different GPS utility apps confirming the problem. Returning the phone if a solution isn't available VERY soon. Return deadline is nearing.

I am having the same exact issue both on Waze and Google Maps. I was going to return it thinking I have a defective unit. Is this a hardware or software issue? OnePlus needs to address this issue ASAP!

Same. I just bought mine. It's definitely not the apps or my location. I can connect just fine on my other devices.

Yup...I am having the exact same issue. I've been on the phone with T-Mobile tech and it starting to look like this is becoming an issue with this model. I missed an exit the other day and was late to a meeting because GPS was connecting on and off. Tech just gave me a new solution to try so I am going to see if it works. If so, I'll post it here.

I only have 7 days left as some of you as well and thinking about returning it for a newer copy. I pre-ordered and got it on launch day.

Definite deal breaker here as well. If OnePlus is working on a patch, they have 6 days to get it out because I have 7 on my return policy!

I have the same exact issue. apparently turning off 5G fixes the problem. I haven't tested it yet, but why should we have to do that? I bought this phone specifically for the 5G! this is unacceptable, OnePlus please send out a fix for this

After reading that the issue may be related to 5G (even on Samsung 5G devices) on XDA Developer forums, I disabled 5G [Settings -> Wi-Fi & internet -> SIM & network -> Preferred network type -> 2G/3G/LTE (Automatic)]. So far, it's improved, but not perfect.

Dang! That is irritating. I would have been mad! I am just going to completely return mine. Not interested anymore. I will stick to my Note 10+

I was actually doing that too. Going into network settings and changing my preferences to 2g/3g/LTE. Unfortunately, for me, it remained the same.

After changing the setting, I also used the GPS Locker app to force AGPS data download, waited about 30 minutes, then rebooted a couple of times. So far it's been ok. It sometimes takes a minute to lock, but it's stayed locked. I have two more long drives (100+ miles) early this coming week. Will see how it goes.

same problem here. The only thing I noticed that helps is turning off Google location accuracy. like others on this thread have mentioned, the error is definitely the 5G connection and how the 7T McLaren is combining GPS location data with cell phone tower localization. the simple fix would be for OnePlus to push an update telling location services to reference 4G LTE localization instead of 5G localization.

There are some major issues with GPS on the 7T Pro McLaren edition. It's slow to update and sometimes refuses to update. I normally use Google Maps to record my journeys. My work phone which is a Samsung J5 has no problems monitoring my journeys but the 7T Pro is dreadful. Despite it being turned on for the highest accuracy it doesn't do it. It's embarrassing and unacceptable for a flagship phone. In hindsight, I should have gone for a P30 Pro or S10+.
