Hey everyone, this is Tony and Taylor @Taylor.Mah from the OnePlus U.S. Brand Ambassador Program. Today, we’ll be comparing the OnePlus 7T to the 7 Pro in terms of camera performance.

Before we show camera samples, we’ll go over the specs of both devices to highlight key hardware differences between both phones. The 7T features a 48mp main camera with a relatively large aperture of f/1.6, optical image stabilization, and electronic image stabilization. The 2x telephoto lens has 12mp with an aperture of f/2.2. As for the ultra-wide-angle lens, the 7T packs a 16mp f/2.2 lens with a field of view of 117°. The front camera sports an aperture of f/2.0 and a megapixel count of 16. There are also a couple new additions with the 7T such as the Super Macro mode which allows for a much closer minimum focusing distance (this lets you to get closer to the subject).

The OnePlus 7 Pro features similar camera specs with a nearly identically configured main, front, and ultra-wide camera. However, it’s telephoto lens only packs 8mp with an aperture of f/2.4. Both the 7 Pro and 7T can record 4K video up to 60fps.

Now that we went over the specs of these two smartphones, let’s take a look at some camera samples. All photos were taken with automatic settings (unless otherwise stated) to represent what the average smartphone camera user could capture. Both phones were also updated to their respective latest software versions as of writing this (Oxygen OS 10.0.5.HD65AA for the 7T and Oxygen OS 10.0.1.GM21AA).

If you'd like to watch a video version of this camera comparison, Tony made a great video showcasing more lowlight photos from both the OnePlus 7T and 7 Pro:

*All macro shots were taken practically touching the subject (which is incredibly difficult for BOTH the 7T and 7 Pro to focus on unless Super Macro is enabled)*

Looking at these photos, you probably wouldn’t have noticed much of a difference between the two smartphones. For the most part, sharpness, contrast, saturation, and white balance were very similar (if not identical), and we cannot see a significant difference between the two smartphones. The only area where the 7T shows a significant difference is in macro applications due to the new Super Macro mode. The marginal difference between both smartphones in the camera department really goes to show how much OnePlus has achieved over the past few years. We’re glad to see that the camera technology of the 7T matches its indirect predecessor, the 7 Pro, and even surpasses it in some cases (especially shown with the Super Macro mode). Overall, both smartphones produce excellent images with little to no difference. If you have to choose between one of these, the decision would probably rest upon the differences in screen quality, size, performance, battery, and price.

Thank you all for reading this post! What do you think of the OnePlus 7T and the 7 Pro’s cameras? Which smartphone do you think produces better photos? Let us know in the comments below!

Well considering the Main and Wide Angle camera are of course, identical, I'd expect nothing else.

Of course the Pro has Laser AF, so that helps with speed of focusing.

And the 7 Pro has a 3x Telephoto and OIS, so while the Telephoto on the 7T is higher resolution, it doesn't go as far AND doesn't have OIS.

The selfie camera is essentially the same though, with one obviously a pop up.

The Pro is caused a Pro for a reason!

Because the Macro mode uses a different lens motor, and the 7T series has it, and the 7 Pro does not.

    It's not a software feature.

on the first openbeta of android 10 for the 7 Pro there was a macro function and it worked pretty well so i don't think there's a difference in the main camera

there actually is a difference in hardare, read @YRJ s lab entry, you will see.
all the macro mode did on the 7pro was using a cropped image from the ultrawide cam. So Just shoot with the ultrawide and crop that and you'll get the same as on the a10 beta

Lol, seems like OnePlus is still in 7T's hangover that they've completely forgot about security patch updates for 7 Series and other models.

I'm not a fan of the front facing camera on the 7T. The skin tones come out much paler and the pictures overall have a yellowish tone. Hopefully OnePlus can fix it.

interestingly enough I find that in these images the nightscape shots on the 7pro are sharper then the 7t but the 7t is brighter. and on the last set of front facing portrait shots the 7t misses a complete edge detection on His left shoulder (or to us the right shoulder)

Now for the macro shots! Please stop making us fool! I can take macro shots with my 6t better than what you guys attempted to take with 7 Pro!
Dude these guys are creating false hype!
