I hope OnePlus pull there finger out and introduce 5G on O2 soon. Ridiculous that we are expected to mod things ourselves to get these kind of speeds out of a device that is meant to be sold as Flagship 5G.

    Thanks all.

I'm guessing the O2 fix will only come in an update for phones with EU software version (I just changed mine from Global to EU)

Here is the solution guys :

If your OnePlus 8 pro , OnePlus 8 or Oneplus 7T pro 5G is not connecting to 5G in 5G covered area .

    # Use single 5G SIM card in number 1 slot.

    Follow the steps here :

1- install EngineerMode apk manually on your phone:http://www.mediafire.com/file/i72tnya1aawo09v/Engineeringmode_V1.01.0.apk/file

2- On you computer you need to have OnePlus driver installed:

3- QPST-application. Please find application from internet:

4- The two XML files with enabled 5G network:http://www.mediafire.com/file/go0qava73eiz0m6/Carrier_Policy.zip/file

5- USB-cable between your computer and phone.

    When you finish and ready:

1- On phone you have to dial to *#801# and enable Rndis, diag switch. Don’t enable Serial-interface if you have installed apk manually.

2- Connect your phone to your computer via USB.

    3- Open then QPST-application.

4- On the menu Open Start Clients then QPST EFS Explorerand wait until you see the files.

    5- Then go to policyman.

6- In the policyman - right list, you will see two files : carrier_policy.xml and carrier_policy.xml_Subscription01. Copy them to your computer as a backup if you need them in the feature.

7- Now delete the two files (carrier_policy.xml and carrier_policy.xml_Subscription01) files from the policyman - right list.

8- Now go to the tow XML files you already download earlier – 5G enabled network. Copy them to the policymandirectory , drop and drag one each time.

9- Reboot your phone , your 5G is enabled now.

On OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro you may have to enable 5G NR via *#*#4636#*#* then Phone Information -> Set preferred network type. Choose :

    Enjoy the 5G speed .

    Very Big Thanks to:

    1- Mr. Minh Truong:

Found some 5G on Three when I was out locally on Wednesday. It's been switched on in the area since the start of the month. Speeds, however, were awful

Very disappointed that the OnePlus 8pro only works for Three on 5g in the UK. Three customer retention team told me they have no plans to roll out 5g to Northern Ireland leaving me with O2 as my only option for 5g in Belfast. Now I find that O2 and oneplus have fallen out and won't enable 5g support from either end. It's very disappointing. OnePlus used to be amazing now, they are holding back on their customers, even the ones who pay for they top tier devices.

I can confirm the process above (changing the carrier profile xml and then installing a 5G switcher app and using it on every reboot) works just fine with me in London. See speedtest for London, N1:

Does anybody know if there is a way to do the .xml change via Linux?

Also, has anybody had any luck complaining to OnePlus about this? It's clearly their fault here. I would certainly argue ot contravenes the Sales of Goods act in the UK as it's most definitely not fit for purpose as they're purposefully blocking 5G.

https://gofile.io/d/1yUqps - Carrier_policy.xml file from a Nord, seems o2 5G is supposedly enabled although I've yet to see it connect to it, that said the areas I've been in that are supposed to have 5G it was right on the edge of the 5G coverage so it may just be the case I wasn't close enough to a 5G mast.

Just changed to 3 today as I couldn't be bothered to wait for O2 and Oneplus to sort it all out. 5G settings appeared after I added the SIM.

Sub-6 5G? If you didn't spot any transmitters, it's probably that.

In the last couple of months, I've seen more coverage, especially in the City of London.

I've had speeds up to 200 Mbps.
