Oneplus 8 OLED Screen Quality Problems

    wwegleitner , Apr 22, 2020 :
So I got my OnePlus 8 yesterday and as with the 6 and the 7 I found the OLED Panel to be underwhelming.

I noticed uneven spots and stripes in dark grey uniform pictures. That's a big letdown as it shows that OnePlus is still not using Samsung's top panels but charges top prices.

Comparing the OnePlus 8 screen on the Press app (available as apk) with the dark theme to the 200$ Redmi Note 8T was embarrassing for the never settle company. I had them here side by side and it was a big let down.

So I continue doing what I did with the OnePlus 6 and 7: I order and return until I get a good display. Especially for the asked 699$ price.

I am a OnePlus customer since the invite only times with the OnePlus one. But OnePlus, you should really use better OLEDs in your Non-pro-smartphones as I get more and more annoyed by this tactics. The near dark / dark grey performance of these OLEDs is abysmal since generations.

Hi.. just made this account to reply to this thread and I'm thinking of buying the standard 8. Firstly are you talking about the standard 8 and not the pro? Secondly are you talking about the green tint on dark greys etc? Or just patchy light and dark areas on dark backgrounds?

Now onto the main point of my post... If your talking about green tint then I can tell you it's nothing to do with op sourcing low quality oled panels and by saying so gives Samsung free run, it's a general Samsung panel issue atm... I've seen it on a ton of phones with Samsung panels including s10 plus and note 10 plus.

I've attached a photo of the green tint on my brother's note 10 plus.

So far, my OP8 is fine and looks great and uniform. Tested the greys in a dark room with brightness down, tested on black backrounds, tested black crush and while there is some of that it doesn't bother me

Same situations with op8 pro phones also.. I have the same case. Hopefully will be fixed in next update :) if it is software issue. If it is hardware, you can always return your phone or apply RMA.. Stay safe :)

It's good that it doesn't bother you.

BUT it bothers me. When buying a premium 700€ phone I'd like to have a flawless screen.

No, it's not a green tint. It's some noise (almost always thin sharp or wider soft vertical dark stripes on dark grey background. And since so many apps are using dark grey backgrounds it's a massive problem.

I am getting my 2nd on Friday. And if this doesn't go well, I'll order a 3rd and a 4th and so on. A good thing that return fees are covered.

It's not a software issue. Just return it and order a new one. Do not let them repair it. It's a new item. It should be flawless

Considering the black crush I am getting is very consistant with what the Galaxy S line suffers from (s10 etc had similar issues) then I would think its just an AMOLED problem.

Now if your getting the green tint, uniform problem issues, blotchy display type issues then that is a problem most definitely and 100% needs to be rectified.

No green or purple tint on dark

Thanks for response and yes I'd send it back in that situation... On my old S10 plus I had the green tint issues but also bitty grainy type look on just off black/dark grey images... it was visible in dark mode the most like you said... there's lots of dark greys.

I have a greenish tint . also screen flickering on lowest brightness on grey backgrounds . I can see the display actually moving . also there is a rectangle box on the lower part of the screen . I can only see it when on the lowest brightness and a dark grey wallpaper . I thought it was something to do with the finger print reader but it doesn't match up quite properly .

the last time I saw this type of issue was on the S8 . it looks to me like these AMOLED screens one plus have ordered from Samsung are of an inferior quality to Samsung's current phones . that wouldn't surprise me tbh . why would Samsung give company's their best screens .

    so disappointed in OnePlus .

Lol it's not a cheap batch or that OnePlus is ordering inferior screens... I've had it in 2 s10s plus, my brother's 2 notes 10 plus and apart from that I've personally seen it on s10, mi9t pro, tab6, op7t, realme X2 Pro and S10 lite... Also seen it being discussed on s20 series and pixel 4XL... This is a general Samsung panel issue and has been since at least the S10 days.

Guess I'll skip this phone if it's confirmed on 8 and pro.

Got also a Pro and when I'm on the lowest brightness on some Gray content it's look like a mess.

Is it possible to fix it with a Update or it's hardware related? Can somebody else test it, just turn the brightness on the lowest settings and if u have the same problem u will see it. But the room must be also dark.

    Hello,

please take a photo of the screen using another device/camera. As you can see, the problem is not visible with a regular screenshot. :)

Yeah that's not same issue and is just caused by the edge glass... You have nothing to worry about with that.
