Yeah read the same thing on android police.
When I got the phone it was just a gimmic thing, but if it's turned of I might as well return it,, and get the 1+ 8.
Or wait for the 8 pro T.
I only have the phone about a week, so can still return it. And at this point I'm pretty sure I do it.
Paying that money and then getting some hardware disabled.
That's something they had thought about before manufacturing.

They say they're reviewing the privacy concerns over it due to the social media uproar and disabling it in China, which is a region famously known for privacy issues. Regarding the rest of the world we will see.

But like normal cameras, we can use them for whatever purpose we see fit, and I believe its in the hand of the users to use these features responsibly, not in the hand of the companies to remove them in the name of privacy.

Imagine if camera phones never existed because someone didn't want pictures of them taken, same goes for mics or any development in tech that captures the world around us.

My point is, it's a cool feature that OP should keep developing, and that it should be used responsibly like any other piece of tech. Making people aware of that is wise, disabling it its just plain stupid.

And besides, we payed for it.

PS: Apparently they're not gonna remove it from the Oxygen OS, so everyone outside of China can keep using it, which is great. I'm really glad OP listen to their users and fans, I think that's what makes it standout from the other companies and I love it!

Anyone else have photochrom get disabled after updating to latest Oxygen OS?

I updated my OnePlus 8 pro from 10.6 to 10.5.10IN11A and my photochrom option no longer shows up.

I am in N America (US), my understanding was the filter / camera would not be disabled with this latest update. It is one of the reasons I bought the phone and I would like it restored.

My model is IN2020, purchased in the US.

how did you update from 10.6 to 10.5, that would be a downgrade.

    EU version os Version 10.5.9.IN11BA
    Works for me

Photochrom in my device doesn't work after update to 10.5.10 IN11AA for global
I tried all softwares of all regions still not working since I live in Ukraine and I ordered my device 1+8pro from China I think they disabled the photochrom filter depending on IMEI or something like that so unless rooting your device (which I don't like right now because I like constantly updating my device whenever an update is available without computer) so like I said without rooting it's not gonna work unless you bought the device outside China which is frustrating!!!

Adding a couple pics I took the first day, before the update was applied that killed it. The pool looked pretty nice.

Really sad it was disabled, or fixed so it no longer works.
