I got my device from a retail store and noticed the banding on top of the screen so asked the guy to give me another unit but turns out all the devices have this issue. Not only that, the color tint & black crush too.
I tried reaching the customer support through all possible mediums (Email, WhatsApp, call) but no one seems to care. Lastly, I was forced to visit the service center which is like 50 kms from where i live as that was the only one operating in my city due to Covid. The issues were evident yet the guy there was acting normal as if that's a feature offered by the brand :/ However, I gave them the device for further inspection and finally after waiting for 3 odd hours, I was told that I will have to wait for an update which will fix this issue. Like seriously? (Mind you this is my 3rd device with all the same issues) The guy there says, yes sir we can provide you a replacement but if that device has this issue too, you have no other option but to wait for an update (which they are not even sure if it'll fix the issue) as we can't provide a refund. THE AUDACITY! They are literally telling me to use the defective device saying an update will fix it without any assurance that it's a software or a hardware glitch. After paying such hefty amount for the device, you get such vague answers making us settle for less with their bad product and support team from the brand who's tagline is 'Never Settle' :|

Seriously disappointed with the device and the kind of support they are offering. People who purchased the device online are kind of lucky as they can return the device and are getting the refund automatically due to less stocks. I hope I'll be provided with a refund or else i'll be left with no options but to take legal actions against the brand.

Since the OnePlus 8 Pro uses Samsung Display’s latest generation of OLED panels with new emitters, it seemed that OnePlus may have risked using technology that might have not yet been mature. From what I’ve seen, the factory production yields for a “flawless” panel on these newer panels are presumably still lower than earlier generations’, and OnePlus may be cutting corners in adopting these new panels by accepting “imperfect” ones.

I don't think they will ever accept the fault. What they did in the update was made adjustments the brightness levels where the lowest is actually at 20% and not completely at 0 so the banding doesn't appear as it used to before at lowest level of brightness.
This is just unacceptable, instead of fixing it they are trying to hide and get away with it. I've filed a legal complaint against them.

Can you keep updating us about how that works out. It's been a few days for me since I got the phone too and display issue bothers me a lot too. Like I paid a lot of money for it, I'd like to be happy for what I paid for.

You shouldn't just give up. Not like they are giving away the device for free we have paid a hefty amount of money so why settle for less?
