This is a very common scenario that we want to see notification area when we swipe down. The shelf should be accessible when we swipe right as it was on older phones.

I'd be happy with just an icon that would launch the shelf.
I'm wondering why nobody has done this. Should be an easy "hack" for some developer.

Solution for the problem :
Go to Home settings
There you will find "swipe down to access" option
Choose what u want there

I too went from op5t to op9p and I really miss the -1 shelf. The Google alternative is awful, and pull down needs to be tied to the drawer for comfort. Please give us the option back, OnePlus!

Long press on an empty space on the home screen>home settings>swipe down to access and set that to shelf

Thank you for helping me. Except that this didn't work. It made my apps tiny, so that I can rearrange apps in different home-screens. I want to turn on the Shelf menu. I already programmed my home-burton to open the Shelf menu. When I do that, it says: first activate Shelf (in Dutch). But I really do not know how. Do you?

I think you mistakenly enabled "alleen startscherm" in the "launcherindeling" instelling. I'll write it again in Dutch:
Op een lege plek op het startscherm drukken>instellingen startscherm>veeg omlaag om te openen>shelf aanduiden in plaats van meldingen en snelle instellingen

Nooit gezien en geweten dat het startscherm ook nog een eigen instellingenwieltje heeft.

Here is my tips for mitigating the disparition of the shelf on OnePlus 9 (I had a OnePlus 6T before): open your "button and gesture" section, choose the "back, home, recents" navigation bar, customize your navigation gestures by for instance opening the shelf when double taping on the back button

Hi People,
You can access the shelf also lower from the screen. Try anywhere where is an empty spot without an icon..

Did you try swiping down from the top right corner? That's the only way to access shelf, if it's enabled in settings first

I tryed everywhere in the screen expecially in the top right corner. It doesn't work and it is activated in the settings
