NOTE:- THIS POST AFFECTS ONEPLUS 8 SERIES AS WELL AS ONEPLUS NORD TOO.

The OnePlus 9 series started its journey in India with a peak of hype around its cameras. At the same time, OnePlus was proud to confirm 5G support for all the models, even though 5G is yet to arrive in the country. However, curious eyes quickly caught the lack of major 5G bands and OnePlus replied with a promise to add more in future updates. Sadly, that's no more the case.

OnePlus has now confirmed on Twitter that the OnePlus 9 won't get support for any additional 5G bands in the future. This is opposed to the promise that the brand made during the launch of the OnePlus 9 series earlier this year. OnePlus states the limitation of hardware for this, stating that it cannot be fixed via a software update. The phone currently supports two 5G bands in the country.

The OnePlus 9 in the US comes with support for multiple 5G bands as opposed to the two in India. The US model supports N1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 25, 28, 38, 40, 41, 48, 66, 71, 77, and 78 bands while the Indian model only gets N41 and N78. The same stands for the more expensive OnePlus 9 Pro. Not that it matters at the moment but whenever 5G goes live in India, OnePlus 9 users will be at the mercy of the network operators.

What's weird is that OnePlus initially flagged it as an issue that can be fixed via the software update and now denying the same. This is misleading for those who purchased the device keeping future-proofing the phone with 5G.

Sorry Indian users you all have been cheated. What's your view on this! Comment below.

As long as you have no proof, which bands operators in India will use in future, your thread is a kind of digging in the mud? What if all major operators will only use this two bands? Or do you have some official informations, that only (!!!) some other bands will get in service and not the ones Oneplus is supporting?

One or 2 persons saying something that is not correct from support is bad. It's on the other hand not the same as rows like the 8 Pro in EU.
The supported bands on the official spec sheet was listed as the following.
    5G:n1, n3, n7, n28, n78
BUT n1, n3, n7 and n28 was labeled as supported in feature upgrades. However it did not mean the bands wasn't there all from the start. Just enabled in carrier profiles later.
Stuff like that could have been a trigger behind the incorrect assumptions of feature bands from one or a few persons from support.
In the case of 8 series in EU the specs said it clearly. Here are the available bands. But these 4 bands get activated later.
On the India version of 9 series however it clearly says n41 and n78. Nothing else. No disclaimer or anything regarding reservations of more bands later.

So what would be more trustworthy? Official specs list or one or 2 persons from support? It would be wonderful with more bands at a later date. But upgradable bands would a selling point to mention in specs. Why would they not mention it if it was possible?
I was sceptical about this claim and instantly thought on the EU 8 series. But it was not the same thing. Included bands to be supported later and adding new bands are different things.
