Today, we're going to do something we've never done before: unveil the design of our upcoming flagship first in our community.
Since the beginning, design has been one of our core pillars, part of our Never Settle philosophy. This means that no detail is too small to be perfected.
Our earliest supporters might remember the OnePlus One launch back in 2014, when we shared OnePlus with the world for the very first time. We spent only one minute talking about specs and performance, with the entire rest of the event dedicated to design and user experience. This was very unconventional. At the time, design was often an afterthought rather than a focus, especially in the Android smartphone world. We made it the focus. We wanted to change things.
Exceptional design isn't just about the things you see, but also about the little things that you don't even notice. It's about everything being in the right place, creating a fast, smooth, seamless, and fluid experience.
For example: the way a phone feels when you pick it up. It's an abstract concept, and it’s very difficult to define or measure. And again, it's one of those things that a lot of people don't even think about. But it’s something we spend a lot of time thinking about, because when it's done right, the entire user experience is elevated.
A comfortable touch and feel results from a lot of refined variables, like weight, thickness, and curvature. Surface material also plays a large role, so throughout OnePlus' history, we've explored countless options: Soft Silk White. Textured Sandstone Black. Sophisticated ceramics. Premium real-wood finishes, like bamboo. And that’s just the beginning.
In 2018, we became the first in the industry to release a smartphone with a four-curved, matte-frosted glass back, but it took three years of testing and perfecting to finalize the development of our groundbreaking chemical etching process, allowing us to bring our signature matte-frosted glass to the stunning Midnight Black and Silk White versions of the OnePlus 6.
While we were extremely happy with our matte-frosted glass, we didn't stop there. We kept exploring, improving, and trying new things. The result? A new smooth matte surface with a brilliant metallic radiance, and we're excited to be introducing this new finish on our upcoming flagship.
So we've talked about feel and materials, but what about design language? When you look at the back of a phone, the camera is perhaps the first thing that attracts your attention. It's an incredibly important piece of the design puzzle, so we've completely reimagined the camera housing for our upcoming flagship. The camera should make a bold visual statement, but also flow naturally with the overall design for a seamless appearance.

To convey the superior quality and effortless versatility of our Triple Camera setup, finding an elegant balance between the three unique lenses. With perfect symmetry from any orientation, a circular design became the natural choice. A circle's rounded edges produce an appealing contrast against the straight lines of a smartphone's rectangular form for a seamless, balanced feel. After going through over fifty design iterations, we think we've landed on something pretty special.
Without further ado, here is the stunning design of our upcoming flagship:
