ahh loved parts 3 and 4 (and also 5, but haven't seen the video yet)! amazing photos and photography subjects and very useful info, I for one would never have thought of trying out portrait mode like that (or at all). I also really appreciate that you took out the measuring tape and the stopwatch for full information :D

    Wowwww this is awesome.
You measured it. I also determined it but only estimated it to be 1 second. But it's definitely too long. I took a lot of pictures where I pressed the shutter button and noticed that the picture was blurry because I thought the picture was already taken.

Great work, stunning how much detail is in your preview. Thank you so much

    Wowww, really wowww!
One of the best reviews I've read, especially and generally, because the technology that the internet offers us is also used, because everyone can pick out what or about what he wants to know in the incoming mail and jump right there, and there is a lot to learn.
Also the structure is conclusive, I could be enthusiastic about that alone, but, what really counts is content, and here simply everything was covered with much love but also with technical know-how, be it the fantastic photos, be it the hardware used, be it the questions about 5G and or the speed of a shutter release and much more, but nevertheless everything was discussed in the due brevity, as far as possible.
I thank @cdnfarmer for their great work, I could understand a lot of things since I have the device myself, and I can also confirm this. It is honest, not unfair and in the end wonderful to read.

    Thank you @cdnfarmer

Please note, you'd *never* be able to get an actual 5G connection on this phone in Canada, no matter what (even if you could connect to a 5G anchor cell and get the 5G icon), because it doesn't support any bands used for 5G in Canada.

Okay, that's right, or almost right.

The European Version of the NORD uses the following bands: N1, N3, N7, N28, N78
Canada aka Bell and Telus uses N66

This fact was known before. But that is not the point.

The 5G network in Canada uses a 10*10MHz channel of the N66 band (1700 MHz), also known as AWS-3. This was auctioned in 2017. Bell and Telus snapped up some of that spectrum in 2017 and kept it in their pockets until now. Bell's current 4G network was set up to combine four carriers or frequency bands in bands 2, 4, 7 and yes again 7, because the band 7 is wide, and Bell often has two separate 20MHz blocks of it. Adding 10MHz of the N66 band gives the effect of 5-carrier aggregation. Bell intends to slowly migrate its existing 4G channels to 5G using dynamic spectrum sharing.
Fun fact: Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver use Bell waves that are not even their own. There the spectrum is owned by the competitor Telus. Bell and Telus have a complicated network sharing agreement where Bell uses Telus towers mainly in the west and Telus uses Bell's towers mainly in the east. This 5G spectrum was announced earlier as part of the agreement.
This means that band 2,4, and especially 7, will of course be used as a 5G network temporarily.

All this is, as you say, you'd probably will never be able to get an actual 5G connection on this phone, that was known before.
In addition, the provider can very well temporarily allow devices with different bands to participate in 5G, since they have partially switched bands, as mentioned above. This is also what @cdnfarmer said, the device was not too allowed and maybe the cell was a pure N66 cell and not switched.

But this test was not primarily aimed at using or getting a 5G network connection at all, but about whether the providers 5G cell towers and use the LTE bands and or the switched band works with the LTE bands of the European version and uses LTE or LTE Advanced, and that worked.

thanks for your kind words @superplus. :) I'm glad that you enjoyed. and it wasn't too long and put you to sleep.
I too was curious and really wondered about them.. It took me about 2 weeks to get use to the camera... I still occassionally get my fingers in the way when the phone is in landscape mode.

thanks, gracias, gratie merci... I was curious to find that the actual distance was best. Thus the measuring tape... however I'd never really would in real life use that measure. Funny story...I had the measuring tape, the OnePlus 6, the Nord and the DLSR at the same time... I felt like tripping over my hands and needed multiple more arms. This is when I realized that yes it is good for comparisons and difficult. Kudos for those who manage it...

    Thank you!

    Danke.

Thank you all for visiting and for your kind words.

When I read about the Beta testing I didn't imagine the it would be the new LAB...

You did a tremendous job and really got down to the uneasy, questionable parts, as well as the price worthy features...

Thanks for spending so much time on this review...!! :)

Lengthy but great read, btw... ;)

    Update 2020 Sept 20

Earlier this month, I mentioned that I'd install the "newly available update after I finished the thread...".
I installed version 10.5.6 then 10.5.7. what I noticed (yes, it is related to photography :)):
    • Capturing &saving the pictures is faster now than before in most modes. Have yet to test low light conditions.
    • Supermacro feature works better but colour and focus still needs improvement to reflect reality.
    • Pro mode zooming in changed similar to supermacro but that effect was lessen with 10.5.7.

For a month, I've been using the Nord as my daily driver. There have been several updates. One thing that I appreciate the most is the shutter button is now faster to save the picture as compared to when I was testing the device.

I captured over 3000 pictures and probably 50-60 videos. Below are some pictures captured with the OnePlus Nord Blue Marble.

For all pictures below, pro mode (with some adjustments) was used unless indicated.

... as you can imagine I had a closer look at the macro shots and I think with the updates also the quality of macromode was enhanced :)

The update did help. 👍 That is nice.

Personally, I think the faster recording (i.e. saving) the pictures made the biggest difference. Several of these shots were made in slight to moderate wind with a few pauses, so the faster the better. Plus I learned to stay still for a bit longer. 😉
