OnePlus Nord CE is here, and you’ve probably seen its three different colorways: Charcoal Ink, Silver Ray, and Blue Void. However amazing and eye-catching they might be, chances are you’ve thought — cool, but what about the phone’s specs?
We don’t blame you. Specs are important, and Nord CE delivers everywhere you’d want it to. That said, we are extremely proud of our colors and how they look and feel. It’s been a constant battle between appearance and functionality, one that can only be won with countless hours of time-consuming and oftentimes failed experiments. So today we want to shine a light on the hard work done by our designers. It’s thanks to them our phones withstand the wear and tear of daily life — while maintaining that perfect look and feel.
First, we’ve got Charcoal Ink. It’s for those of you who don’t necessarily want flashy colors, but a more subtle phone that never goes out of style. It’s got a simple and dark coating that brings a solid feel to the overall experience.
Silver Ray features a bright and shiny color that changes nuance as you hold it at different angles. It looks absolutely awesome, and a little bit like magic, but it all comes down to some honest craftsmanship on behalf of our designers. To achieve the shift in nuance, a technique called liquid crystal filming is used. After that, the bottom is superimposed with another lighter color to provide a soft metallic look.
Nord CE’s final color is called Blue Void. Inspired by the deep ocean, it also provides a mesmerizing shift in nuance, yet more subtle than Silver Ray. This somewhat hazy-looking color is achieved by carefully adjusting the ratio of paint used. Maintaining this perfectly nuanced blue gets really tricky as the anti-fingerprint paint is introduced. However, it’s the combination of the sleek color and awesome feel that makes Blue Void so special.
The process of creating these colors has been packed with hard choices for our designers, but at least they ended up with three. You have to pick one. However, as we’re shipping phones across the world, we’re confident you’ll be happy whichever you choose — they’re all stunning.
