    Hi all,

OnePlus recently confirmed to Android Central that the two newest Nord phones — the Nord N10 and Nord N100 — will only receive one software upgrade. Both devices ship with Android 10, which logically means they will eventually get Android 11 and then no more upgrades after that.

However, OnePlus has yet to make any promises related to the Nord, in terms of how many Android versions it will receive.

Does anybody have some visibility on this? What can we expect for our phones?

    Thanks

    Hi there,

The OnePlus Nord has the same maintenance schedule as the flagship OnePlus series. You can read about it here:

Already said on press and networks since a long time :
OnePlus Nord : 2 years of firmware updates and 3 years of security updates.
For low cost devices such as N10 & N 100 : one major firmware update unless other specified and 2 years of security updates matching the industry standards. For OS11 possibly quite late in 2021. Stay tuned ... But OnePlus NEVER communicates about OS updates ETA (estimated time of arrival) which is the best option.

That's a retarded policy. What we don't need in the world right now is more e-waste thanks to prematurely abandoned phones. If you don't have any intention to properly support a phone, don't release one.

"The Nord N10 5G and N100 will receive one major Android update and a total of two years of security updates. The plan for these two devices aligns with industry standards for smartphones in more affordable price ranges. As always, we will continue listening to feedback from our users and looking for ways to improve the software experience for all OnePlus devices.

Way to go OnePlus I'm. Sure people Will start looking else where like Nokia & Moto series. Makes more sense each day why Carl left values of the customer going down.. Thoughts 💭 people

Already posted a lot of times on the forum.
As N10 and N100 are among low cost devices, 1 major firmware update and 2 years of security updates match perfectly industry standards. No need to have more !

Who said it matches industry standards?? Most mid rangers including the low priced Redmi phones are getting 2 OS updates and almost 3 years of security updates. I had stopped trusting Oneplus once they discontinued updates for my OnePlus 2 early on. But then thought they have reformed once I saw the support for OP5T etc and bought a Nord. Now again i think I made a wrong choice in trusting Oneplus and probably I was better off with Redmi/Poco/Nokia etc..

I can understand the case for the N100 but I disagree with your assessment on the N10. The N10 is only ~$40-60 cheaper (based on AliEx price history) and only 1-step below in terms of specs compared to the vanilla Nord (EU prices are £329 for N10 and £379 for Nord). It seems to be positioned as a slightly cheaper mid-range option.

The $129 Nokia 2.3 and $350 Nokia 7.2 are guaranteed two years of platform updates and three years of security updates, while Samsung (mid-range and up) and Google (Pixel 4A is a $300 phone) have committed up to 3 years of platform updates.

Smartphone consumers need to understand that software updates are necessary to keep a phone feature updated, secure, and ensure longevity to avoid contributing to the global catastrophe that is e-waste. In order to achieve this, phones must at least have a support life-cycle of at least 3 years (I'm counting on security updates) and Oneplus' mediocre commitment on the N10 is disappointing, to put it mildly.

Not at all, Only the premium redmi phones receive 2 years of security updates. Redmi Note 8 pro was upgraded from A9 to A10 and that's the last one

It's a pretty poor showing for OnePlus. My backup Nokia 1 Plus is still receiving security updates and cost £70. It came with Android 9, got an update to 10 and next year will get Android 11. OnePlus' reasoning that other similarly cheap phones get the same treatment are based on dubious assumptions. OnePlus are becoming lazy and arrogant. I have a feeling that OnePlus will reduce OS updates and security updates for their more expensive phones in due course. It's just a matter of time.
