To root the OPO its not necessary to flash a custom recovery! Its enough to boot it temporally. Maybe you can change this in your guide and give both ways.

Damn should have read this before installing everything on my phone... Isn't there a way to avoid to reinstall everything again before unlocking the bootlader and rooting the Oneplus?

Warranty is not voided but should you brick the phone One Plus will repair your phone but not under warranty (Not sure.)

    But no side effects

    Thank you!
    Rooted my Oneplus One.

    One question:

Now do i have to go back into Developer Options and disable USB Debugging and CM Update within the Developer Options?
    Thanks :)

Thanks for nice and clear guide:)
Actually, we don't have to unlock bootloader and install custom recovery if we just want to root.
Just use temp custom recovery to flash supersu.zip into the phone.

Guy! This will wipe all your data! Check this link to root without unlocking bootloader (no siping) and to keep the original recovery!

Nice guide... I usually add the location of adb.exe to my %path% in Windows for easier access from the Prompt. In case anyone doesn't know how and wants to do the same, do this:
    1. Copy the path where "adb.exe" is
    2. Open Control Panels -> System
    3. Click "Advanced system settings"
    4. Click "Environment Variables..."
    5. Create a New variable (options below):
    6. Double-click the "path" variable (system or user, doesn't matter)
    7. At the end of the string, be sure it ends with a semicolon (";")
    8. Paste the adb.exe path into the "path" variable.
Alternatively you can put the adb.exe path in it's own variable (e.g. "adt"), then add that variable reference to the "path" variable instead (e.g. "<other path references>;%adt%;"). This is how I do it as it keeps my "path" variable shorter and more manageable. :D

Hello @Chromium , my name is August and I just purchased the OnePlus One. I saw your post on the forums about rooting and I would like to first of all, thank you for such a detailed tutorial. Furthermore, I myself was thinking about rooting my own OnePlus One, however I have never rooted an Android Device before and I am a little hesitant about rooting my new phone. Would you be so kind to maybe share with me some of the advantages of rooting, specifically the OnePlus One, and also what downsides it possibly has. For instance, what apps and modifications will you be installing on your OnePlus One? Does it effect the battery life? What about support? Does that mean that you will not be able to update your device with the CM11s updates for the OnePlus One? Thanks for your post and your time,

Ota updates may fail if flashing custom rom, and may brick phone!
Try this, it doesn't wipe your data, and keeps original recovery!

Hello Juan I read your response to my post and I have a couple of questions. So doing this it means that I will have root access and be able to install all those root only apps in the play store? Also will I be able to update every time CM puts out an update for the OnePlus One? Thanks for your time and response, let me know.
