I don't understand why OnePlus and many other manufacturer's don't use Qi, it's an amazing technology.

Tried this, it works with the back plate off but once it is put back on it will not initiate a charge. I thought it was the nfc that was interfering but i tried moving the qi pad and it still would not charge. Sad panda.

So it only works if it's outside the back cover? I guess the only option is to trap it inside a case. That does suck...

Too much work and it void warranty, possibly a burnt port too. Better to put out a wish list for features in the 1+2....

I think I will wait and see if there are any long term harm from this.

Personally, I love wireless charging. My USB port does not get damaged from constantly plugging things in.... It's enough that I use the plug for data transfer, for rooting/custom ROMs, for in-car use etc etc. If I had to also plug it in to charge every night, I'd run the risk of wearing out the port.

I'll consider this mod for sure!

I think that with a different back plate it would work for sure. Just not this sandstone black one, is there metal incorporated in it? I thought it was all plastic... and if that is the case then it is the NFC chip blocking the qi signal. If you were able to position the pad somewhere away from the NFC chip (the chip is huge so there is barely any place where it could go and still be near the center of the phone) then it might work if it is not the back plate blocking the charge.

Anybody done this or something similar? I have a charging pad here, and my soldering iron is handy. Just wondering if there are any success stories out there?

Would love to see this work, but seems it will need a redesigned styleswap back to accommodate it. :(
