[NOTICE: Now changed to support Nord and 8T. Phones which use the Google Dialer and Google Messages.]

    Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I purchased a Oneplus 8 and pretty much straight away found something a little annoying with certain apps from the play store not having the correct icons.

    Here's the original thread - https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...n-the-oneplus-8-please.1249793/#post-21783308

I have made something to address this problem:

    The Problem

Oneplus ship their phones with two pre-installed icon packs. Oxygen for round icons and Hydrogen for square ones. Not only do these contain round and square icons for their own apps, they also contain a few hundred third party ones. It's a little confusing as to why they do this, when the play store contains millions of apps. If an app gets a make-over and the developer changes their icon, the oneplus pack is instantly out of date. There is a bigger problem though, which is sometimes oneplus gets the wrong icon.

This app is one example of many - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bskyb.nowtv.beta&hl=en_GB

When you search the play store, you can see two apps called Now TV. The one at the top in orange and the one below in black.

The oxygen icon pack contains the black one, whereas the hydrogen one contains the orange.

Oneplus could address this issue by allowing the user to specify which icons use an icon pack, and which ones should be able to use their default. This request was submitted nearly two years ago here - https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...when-using-an-icon-pack.880198/#post-21782255

    The Solution

The solution would be for oneplus to simply use an icon pack which only contain icons for their own apps and not third party ones. This would force apps downloaded from the play store to use their own.

    Oneplus Oxygen Lite Icon Pack

So I basically did just that. I downloaded the latest oxygen icon pack and removed everything apart from the bare minimum. Dymanic icons work just fine, and you'll never have apps using wrong or old icons. Every icon on the phone is round, the majority of the apps are already round so don't need to be included in the icon pack.

as you can see, the Now TV app is using the correct icon (you know, the one the developer intended to be used)

    White Padding Bugs are resolved

The original oneplus icon pack has been known to introduce random padding to icons. Chrome was an issue for months, but has since been resolved. However, Google find my phone, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Remote Desktop and APK Extractor suffer from this from time to time. Using the lite icon pack addresses these issues.

    See here for details:

    Installation

This icon pack is based on the original oneplus oxygen APK. Due to the white padding bugs in the original I would recommend you un-install both the Hydrogen and Oxygen icon packs, which will default to the 'System Default' icon pack. This uses each apps default icon, which actually covers 99% of them. You can then install the lite icon pack and manually change as you see fit. The following icons should be changed:

Google Calendar (Dynamic) <- New Style
Weather (Dynamic) <- from Oxygen10 and changed to blue background (much nicer)
Calculator <- from Oxygen10 and changed from orange to blue(much nicer)
    Gamespace <- Custom design
    Settings <- from Google Pixel
    Simcard <- Custom designs

No worries, I'll probably finish off the weather icons first though....as the ones OP have done in Oxygen11 don't look too great

Thanks for the heads up. I've just updated icons for notes and zen and working on the weather ones now. Once that's done I'll test on the nord and hopefully find a fix for that and the 8 pro.

@RedVision81 @Sayan56785 because my app is based on the original oneplus oxygen icon pack, you first need to uninstall the existing app before you can install the new one. You can make a backup first if you prefer by downloading apk extractor from the playstore, open it, find the oxygen icon pack and click on it. This saves it to your phone in case you want to re-install it.

To uninstall (settings, apps, show all apps, oxygen icon pack, uninstall)

    Install the new one

I'll see if I can rename mine so you have run both packs if you prefer.

If anyone has any recommendations for a different style clock icon, I'm happy to make additional icon packs.

Did everything work ok in the end? I've just updated the clock to match the rest of the icons, so u might want to download and install it again.

The idea behind this icon pack is to keep 3rd party icons as the developer intended. Just the oneplus icons have been improved.

That said, I am working on a custom icon pack based on this to handle requests.

I've had a look inside the vanced app and it's showing me this icon?

The one in the middle is Vanced icon. I usually use YouTube's own icon from other icon developers but they often look oversaturated. OnePlus icons are more muted and better looking
