I never saw such an overexposed picture. Could you clean your lense and try it again? The camera will bump the iso very high to identify your face better. So you could try to activate hdr and - as mentioned before- clean your lense. Even when I am in bright light, my OP6 doesn't overexpose like this.

The problem we have is called fixed focus. Hence, everything in the background won't be sharp. The "selfie" cam is really for selfies and video chats.

If you were so concerned about camera then you should have ignored the OP6 and bought an iPhone or Samsung or LG these have much better cameras or even the Honor 10. Cameras are not OP's strongest selling point and its best shot ever at cameras was with the OP5/5T, so dumping a relatively new OP5T for the OP6 sounds like very poor judgement on your part as there's not much to separate both phones. You could have spent that money on a Pixl XL or Note 8 which have come down in price and have much higher specs in terms of hardware and still kept your 5T.

Ok, I see the issue...however your in a city with tons of GLASS skyscrapers and buildings all reflecting loads of light....and you expect a phone to filter this out......

I think your mislead. It also looks super overcast where you are.

I would heavily consider you taking the wider picture into account before judging a piece of technology due to "flaws".

Or just not be so stupid to expect a phone to expose correctly on a sunny day with an overcast background.....in simpler terms learn to take a picture properly and stop whinging!

I took a closer look at the settings in the camera. Go to take a picture you will see a icon of upper body, if that is crossed out? If it is crossed out it won't focus on you

When you turn on camera, change to portrait mode, then you will see in the bottom right hand corner is a (human) upper body icon. Make sure that it looks like it has a seatbelt .

I am not versed in camera issues but you can spend some time changing the settings and maybe you will find a good shot.

Actually the Oneplus 6 is one of the phones that also has a decent front camera on board, i could name other flagships that dont (lookin at you lg).
But one thing to note, is that it has a fixed focus range...
Not a bad thing, as it prefents focus issues and even though the apperture is "only 2.0" if you had the ability to focus the backround, you as the subject would be completely out of focus...
One thing you can try to prevent however is an overexposed background... For that switch the HDR mode from HDR Auto, to just HDR (basically forces it On)
Might not always work perfectly, but it should definitely give you less blown out background.
