I just upgraded to 9.0.4 and went to my car for a short test. WiFi connects, but there is still no connection to the internet.

This is very sad, especially regarding the current "design our next oxygenOS feature" instead of repairing the current errors.

Hi. I have exactly the same problem, VW Discover Media 2017, connecting to the hotspot but no Internet connection. I have 2 phones, OP5 and OP5T, the problem appeared immediately as I updated to Android Pie (9).
Any news about it? Does anybody know if it's navi unit or phone related?

Because of the update it's oxygenOS related, after the update to android 9. I am sure about it. I tested the internet connection with an iPhone without a problem.

Yes, it's clearly after the update to Android 9. The question is: is maybe the navi unit's software too old to properly work with Android 9?
(It would be interesting to test with another phone, another brand, also with Android 9)

Hi, just to add I am also having the same issue with a 2018 Golf after the upgrade to Android Pie (both 9.0.3 and 9.0.4) it would seem that things are at a bit of an impasse at the moment. Based on Chris's response from OP below, it would seem that there has been a change of behaviour in the OnePlus implementation (possibly a Google code change) of the hotspot negotiation. Arguably, the OP/Google implementation is now "to standards" but VW appear to rely on the previous "assumed" defaults and used that as a shortcut to set the gateway as

I suspect that OnePlus will argue, not entirely unreasonably, that theirs is the correct implementation and won't "fix" the issue. But getting VW to make the change might be even less likely - especially if, as seems to be the case, a big manufacturer like Samsung have worked around the issue and it doesn't affect the more popular brands. I also assume that it will require a trip to the dealer to get the updated software too...

Fingers cross either OnePlus works around the issue or VW fix it... but I'm not holding my breath. :(

I sent my log file some weeks ago and after I forwarded the last post at the beginning of this week to my open ticket, I got a great answer. They said they identified the problem inside a special behaviour of the VW Entertainment System. They try to fix it with the next update.

    Let's hope for the best!

I suppose, the fix will be coming from OnePlus. Both companies know about the problem, but VW seems to be too big and slow to change a software for all their entertainment systems.

Yesterday I asked OnePlus for the fix - regarding my ticket. They said, they are working on it.

VW says, it's an issue with the phone. With other phones especially those with Android 8 tethering seems to work. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
