I believe for a company to be successful it needs a middle ground where cost and features and everything in between meet perfection and if it does it will attract us users\buyers. Yeah I know everyone here will agree that If we where an investor in the company we would also do this but it depends on personal preference.
Now OnePlus is changing little by little the ui changed the cost has changed and the looks have changed {fyi the looks change is a plus in my book looks more premium} just take the older models of OnePlus it was unique it was different look from its competitors but nowadays it's getting identical to other companies.....just take OnePlus 8 pro and OnePlus 9 pro....8 pros look is different with center camera bumper not many phone's have it but in 9 pro's case most phones have it.....
So my answer to the question is....."You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain"
I hope OnePlus don't die or turn itself into a villain...just don't turn into other brands that trap users in its ecosystem ok.....if that happens it will be the villain 😑

    Sorry it's long 😅just my opinion 🙄🙏

Oneplus has changed. They are no longer a flagship killer. That was only used until they managed to become a flagship themselves.

I do understand that, however I would expect the cheaper models to offer better value for money

I don't agree here! You cannot get Oxegen OS user experience anywhere else not even the cost you anticipate or brand. On top of it OnePlus provide stable user experience with continue UI improvement.

    I think
'Provides Stable user experience' - more like 'it used to provide stable user experience'. For the past two years, OS updates have been delayed and are nothing but buggy, there were instances when it released and rolled back the stable updates that were buggy. So, that's there.
'continual UI improvement' - so does every other company around, look at miui or realme os or oneui, their ui changed a lot too. This is to say that other companies have been spending a lot on refining their UI, not just oneplus. The recent Oxygen 11 update looked more like Oneui than the stock experience that we loved and craved for.

Indeed, I agree that Oxygen OS has been best Android OS there is. It will be in the near future too. But saying that radical pricing y-o-y is owing to their spending on Oxygen OS doesn't make sense.
Don't you think the more an OS skin is different from stock, the more they have to spend on every platform update releases? Oxygen OS had been very nearer to stock. So that's another argument.

Yes, you are making sense and Agreed with you on Sumsung OneUI interface is really great and very neat as Oxegen OS UI. However, rest other OS UI such as MiUi, Funtouch OS all are coming with blotware along with forceful integration of nonsense advertisement which not required and annoying at the same time. However, still those Mobile manufacturer brings such blotware based OS UI without any hesitation because they know Indian customer does not care about the quality experience considering chip cost.

In my perspective OS UI is the main base where data security is also important part and cannot be neglected, Having said that those user who are aware and not wants to compromise security in UI while operating cellphone. Hence, at the moment Oxegen OS and Sumsung OneUI is the only choice we have where cost is also an important factor where OnePlus trying to cash in and now a days not focusing on Oxegen OS UI improving experience and it is quit disappointing. Again don't forget OnePlus is also one of the Chinese company along with all other sister subsidiaries Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Xiaomi trying to dominate Indian and global market.

These companies are capturing all the Indian customer attention where as less costly and high cost (OnePlus) cellphone manufactured by them and they are dominating and that's scary !

Hence, India should deploy Data Privacy and Cyber Security Policy to control all these Chinese companies to work in India.

    Cheers !!
