    Neither

    They're just a business.

They came in with a great business model and then saw they could have better profit with higher end pricing. They're not "villains" because they haven't done something actually evil. It's just how business works :/

It was funtastic upto 6 series but now its not flagship killer and also in the same price two big and trusted brands are there i.e. samsung and Apple. so from my point of view oneplus is obviously villain.

    OnePlus : A villain.
What's the difference between a budget phone $250 Poco X3 Pro and $700 OnePlus 8 Pro if OnePlus fails to provide timely updates.
If flagships phones can't provide better after sale service than a budget phone with high-end processor then what's the point of buying a flagship unless users have money plants.

Well, I certainly understand the company's side of things.... At the end of the day however, it pains me to not have long term support for my phone. I mean if I invest so much in a phone, it would be good to have the parts for it 4 years down the line to fix a small thing rather than have to buy a whole new one

You really just had to side with a company that released 27(!) new and/or rebadged phones in 2021, has a pitiful track record of updating cheap phones (Redmi Note 7 received only ONE Android version update and left to languish, POCO F1 will not get Android 11, and there's still no information on when the first Mi 9 will get it), has abhorrent privacy practices, and repeatedly documented technical and quality issues (the touch issues in X3 NFC carried over to the X3 Pro, and even the new Poco F3 was not spared from touch issues), didn't you?

As I mentioned receiving software updates regularly is the most important matter to me. As we can see above the OP has mentioned no OEM has good track record with updating their device in the long run apart from Android's in-house Pixels.
Thus one and only path I have is Custom ROMs. Luckily Xiaomi phones have great XDA support.
I would NOT trust any brand anymore when it comes to Android updates. Heavily skinned, bloated and sometimes with ads Android skins — will have only one year regular updates.
My family's Redmi Note 4 is on LOS 18.1 and Redmi Note 7 Pro is on PE+ 11 since January 2021.
