OPO Bamboo Swapsyle Cover vs Dbrand Mahogany Vinyl

    Oliver-Birch , Jan 13, 2015 :
Today I received both the dbrand mahogany vinyl and the official Oneplus One bamboo swapstyle cover. Is obviously a hard compassion as they are two completely different products but I’ll do my best. (It’s my fist review so don’t be too harsh on me haha)

    The Oneplus One Bamboo Swapstyle:
Despite many saying how difficult it was to get the original sandstone case off, I found it relatively easy, but delicate. The swapstyle itself fitted very nicely onto the device, and has no gaps between the chrome plastic rim and swapstyle cover unlike some other users. The quality of the swapsyle is very high and the bamboo neatly ‘folds’ into the plastic. Admittedly the plastic looks a little cheap, but I think the quality of the bamboo draws away from that. The bamboo has a light varnish so loses some of the bamboo texture, but still remains some tactility whilst in the hand. The swapstyle does increase the thickness of the phone a little but is still less than 1mm difference. I’m using the Tupia case, and it still fits into that. The bamboo also adds to the weight ever so slightly, which I personally feel makes the device feel more durable and premium. I have had no issues with noises/creaking coming from the case, or signal interruption, but I’ve only used it for a day so I’ll keep you guys up-to-date!

    Dbrand Mahogany Vinyl: (https://dbrand.com/shop/oneplus-one)
The main advantage here is the price. For just $9 you can have something which is as if not more visually appealing. The installation of the vinyl was very easy, easier than the installation of the swapsyle (also much easier than installing a screen protector). The vinyl has an enhanced texture and to me has more texture then the bamboo and is very tactile in the hand. It’s a very slim vinyl so doesn’t add to much bulk to the phone at all. It fitted almost perfectly, although I can see that the edges will most likely start to peel over a length of wear and tear, which is a real down side. The quality of the vinyl is high, but I think the swapstyle quality and overall build is better, but for the price it certainly should be.

    The Verdict:
The vinyl for the price is amazing. It looks and feels just like wood and the instillation was easy. The bamboo is a lot more expensive but maintains a higher build quality. I think if you are still unsure on a bamboo swapsyle cover just wait for more reviews or too see if the price comes down. Buy a viynl and see what you think, its only $9 after all.

Here are a few pics, apologies for the quality, I was using my tablet as my camera was at home rather than Uni!

dBrand looks nicer in all honesty. Although, I would be hesitant to put on my Sandstone black case. MAybe buy a cheap White case and put the vinyl on that.

Its really nice, no denying it! Try not to fore the sandstone to come off, i think i applied a little too much pressure and the chrome has a few scuffs...

Good idea, although I hate using a case....not looking for added bulk. I do have a white StyleSwap case, but it was damaged in transit so I never used it. Maybe I can glue it and try a skin.

Still waiting for my swap style cover but
slowly but surely I think, dbrand (mahogany, that I applied to my one) is the better idea, quick to change and very good looking

What I would do would be to grab the front of the Mahogony vinyl and the bamboo back. Best of both words.

I applied the vinyl onto the Sandstone case, with heat it's easy to apply and uses a strong adhesive.

Alot of people say you shouldn't add it to the sandstone as there is the slim chance that some of the texture will come up with it. IMPO I would by the new Obsidian black (third-party) or Slik White StyleSwap and put the vinyl on that. Sort of like having your own personal StyleSwap.

From experience, I would say heating the vinyl back up makes it much easier to come off. Sounds like a good option though
