Location is using GPS so yes you will be using Data there is no way to go around it locating your position takes a GPS Satellite

I am not too sure about this my good sir.

However I must admit the idea of my OnePlus One mobile telecommunication device knowing where I am at all times disturbs me.

It could lead to people finding my during times I wish to be alone, such as:

• Mid-morning walks alone around my estate, where I appreciate the weather, wild life and the numerous shotgun targets that these provide.
• Evenings with young ladies from the local town of Twattington-on-the-Wolds. Their family may find out, and the last thing I need is a father demanding I make a honest woman of the hussy I am spending time with
• My location, while I am disposing of a object from one of my many unfortunate shotgun related accidents
• My location, when I sneak off within my manor for some "Gentleman's Alone TIme"

thats not differnt from cell towers? my tom tom was out of date and had to use my phone while in canada. my phone plan is for america. i have airplane mode on when i did it. just dont t know if i will be charged for roaming

If you don't use wifi it will use data. You can also use the "offline maps" mode of Google maps.

In airplane mode, wifi / data/ bluetooth etc can be individually turned on. So if everything is still off then you are good to go.
