I bought mine unlocked been 4 and a half months and no update even my dad's 2 year old s9 plus it's on the latest updates. It gets an update like every 2 months that's better than what OnePlus is currently doing.

Is it safe to download and update?
Should I get future update if I have update through XDA forum?

Yes, XDA website is safe. I am using that website from 3 years. But I recommend to do a full update. Because if you do a full update, there are more chances that your device will be stable and get future updates correctly. Check twice before selecting the link that does it is your required version or not. Full update will be around 2.3 GB. Just one tap and the file will be start downloading.

There are no major bug fixes or new features in this update. So, doesn't matter if we get the update on day one of the rollout or after a week or two. But the thing is, oneplus is becoming sloppy with their updates. I think by the time we receive the update, it will be November and we will be applying 2 months old patch!!!

If you are competing with flagships, then you need to be on top of your game.

Samsung has come a long way with updates now. They use to lag a lot. But from last year or so, they are very good with their updates. Even with their mid range phones.

    oneplus please note-
Oneplus is not able to provide mobile security updates every month. All I want to say to oneplus is that you may give mobile feature updates in 2 months, but provide security updates every month. In this era of mobile hacking, if we get oneplus security update every month, then we will be able to avoid online mobile hacking threats and we will be proud that we are a customer of oneplus one premium mobile company.

When I updated my Razer 1 phone to this 7t Pro there was also a couple of Samsungs I could have chosen but because of bloated past experience decided against. Beginning to see that 1+ relationship with there users is something of the past. All credit to those 1+ users because without this forum I would be stuck.

Yeah same I could've gone for a S10 or a iPhone but I gave OnePlus a chance and well Samsung has been really good with software such as improving the UI offering 3 year of updates and providing timely updates for all devices doesn't battery if they are 2 years old or budget phones.
